What engine is fitted to it? I'm pretty sure the Briggs 2 stroke engines masport used run at 50:1

Hi Joe
I do not the engine, and it is 2 stoke. I could not started it today and I guess it is because I did not use the right ratio.

Leo, To be safe use a 25 to 1 mix.

Hi Joe
It is 4 stoke, Briggs & Stattion engine, 5hp 2.6kw. I tried 50:1, and it could not start. Then, I changed to 25:1, and it worked just 10 minites and stopped. I found the engine is very hot. I left the engien cool about half an hour, and I added extra fuel to 25:1, and the Lawmower nener started anymore.
Could you please tell me what is the problem?

Craftsman 435 is eqquiped with B&S Quantum 5hp engine 4 stroke.. not 2 stroke. not sure what consequences would be when its run on a 2stroke oil mix

As long as the oil sump is filled to the correct level with engine oil, running it on 2 stroke mix will only cause a lot of smoke, a fouled spark plug, a clogged muffler and crudded up valves that stop sealing after a fairly short time. Since a 2 stroke has most of those faults routinely, it isn't a big problem putting 2 stroke mix in a 4 stroke for a short time until you get it straightened out. What is really important, is ensuring that the oil sump is filled with 4 stroke engine oil. Most people who put 2 stroke mix in their 4 strokes neglect to put oil in the sump, and that ends badly.

It is a big problem.
The fuel is metered to get the correct mixture. 1 millilitre in every 50 is oil instead of fuel. Or 1 in 25. So the motor is running lean.
And to just vary the mixture from 50:1 to 25:1 makes a blow your motor up difference on a motorbike. So I do not get why they would advise that for a motor mower. Perhaps they are not jetted that accurately (rich on the side of caution) and they do it to make money out of oil companies.
2 stroke fuel in a fourstroke is wrong.
435 masport means nothing. It could be anything. A picture would be real handy.
I do believe that i have a 435 here with a Briggs 2 stroke on it. The later ones of them where a 5hp.

Hi guys
First of all, thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure the mower is 4 stroke, and what i want to know what is the fuel to oil ratio I should use to make it works.
Meanwhile, pictures will be posted tomorrow(4/10/2012).
BTW, hi Grumpy
What do you mean put oil in the sump? What I did is fill the engine oil tank with the 1:25 ratio fuei and oil mixture.

If its 4 stroke it is like your car, you put oil in the sump of the engine to lubricate the internals and it burns straight petrol.
If it is two stroke it has no sump and you put oil in the petrol because the petro & oil mix enters the crankcase of the motor and that lubricates the internals.
Two totally different engine designs.
Hence the picture requests.

Ok so what you have is a briggs and stratton 4 stroke Straight fuel goes in the cap under the red circle. SAE30 engine oil goes in the little screw in dipstick in the yellow circle. If all the oil is drained these engines take 600ml from empty, check the oil level against the markers on the dipstick add some oil little by little until it is on the full mark, try your best not to overfill it. I just read your pm that you are from wagga area, if your ever over this way let me know and I can fix it up for you, provided the engine itself is okay it shouldnt take very long in the workshop and will be inexpensive.

Joe, you produced a typo: Briggs and Stratton 4 stroke, not 2 stroke.
Leo, the fuel tank is screwed to the underside of the carburetor. It has a metal screw-on fuel cap on the top of the tank. You can't see it in the picture because the air filter is in the way, but it is near where Joe put the red circle, in the middle of the tank edge, straight down from the air filter. I have no idea what you mean by the Sumo of engine. Does this engine wrestle Japanese-style?

Hi Joe Thanks for your help. The disc of the Mower indicates it is 4 stoke(see pic below). I will double check the yellow circle you mentioned tomorrow.

Hi Grumpy
Thanks for your reply. I could find the fuel cap, and I will check the yellow circle Joe mentioned tomorrow since I do not remerber what is near there.
The mower is made in New Zealand. I want to say is that I could not find the oil sump.

This is an example of where the oil sump fill is located.

Hi Mark, Guys I found the oil sump fill (see photo), and the question is that how to fill the oil into this small hole? Hi Mark, Should I loosen the screw to get the stick shown at the bottom of your photo?

Leo, undo the oil fill with a screw driver in the slot, or use the knobs to lever it around, until it is loose.
Use a funnel to get your oil in. If you dont have one, make one out of a soft drink bottle. Remember, not to overfill it with oil.
