Recently bought myself a Cylinder mower and am now in the process of restoring it back to former glory. First thing I have discovered is that genuine parts for my model just don't exist in the local mower stores and to be honest I am not even sure what model it is. Some investigation mostly from this website indicates it might be a SB 690 model, possibly a hybrid from NZ.

Have attached some photo's...any one able to advise on the model.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Sly, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have another Scott Bonnar owner on board. grin
Sly, you are quite right, your machine is a Model 690, and came about through a collaboration with Morrison Mowers (which had itself had dealings with Victa Ltd hence its similarity with the Victa Imperial). In 1973, the New Zealand company, Challenge Corporation Ltd, acquired Scott Bonnar. Hence the connection with Morrison Mowers.

So you do have a genuine Scott Bonnar; but one that has Victa and Morrison in its heritage. wink
Here's some info from the Scott Bonnar Product Range 1978...Click HERE to see the complete range:

You may be able to obtain spare parts from Morrison in NZ. Just try a Google (NZ) search.

Once again Sly, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.

Thanks for the reply Deejay, nice to know the model and I guess I am on my own when it comes to parts, but that just adds to the challenge. Fortunately these machine are robust in their construction and last a lifetime if maintained. My first dilemma was to get a replacement clutch lever, the old one was worn to the point of being almost inoperative. I haven't been able to track down a genuine replacement and so have fitted a mountain bike brake lever (see my photo) as a temp. It works like a charm but doesn't have the hold open locking device on the original lever that you can see in your photo.

The fun continues....

I had to have a second look at those photos, at first I thought it was an imperial! here is a pic for comparison...

Anyhow I belive before the design went via victa - morrison - scott connar they derived from a old ransomes design.... I'll be damned if I can find the photo I have of it at the moment though....

Is yours belt or chain driven? I had a morrison of the same varant here once missing its reel but it was a belt drive, the imperial however was a chain driven mower.

Certainly can see the similarities. Mine is belt driven,(see photo) almost exactly as described in the brochure photo Deejay posted, except mine doesn't have the Briggs and Stratton engine. A close inspection indicates it has already had a previous restoration so most likely not the original engine.

Hello all,

this is a Model 690 16".
It was made by Morrison in NZ.

I believe the engine is a re-power.
