Ok blast from the past been in the back of my shed for 8 years along with other goodies i couldn't bare to let go of. Ive been wondering what model it is for a wile now and think ive got it! correct me if im wrong ....-- 1969-1971 V63 Cortina 125cc and having a through baseplate muffler im thinking it would be a 70 - 71 (late production) ENG NO :7107066.
in good condition apart from the terrible paint job :S

This is one of my favorite styles of older victa.

Also whats wrong with the paint? it looks fine.... A Litle scuffed but fine.

the paint ive learned to live with the thing is its not original the base should be a dark green hammertone and the handles and cowl should be a light green just annoys me i guess.

The engine is a Cortina 2 engine,but that base sorry it looks like a Corvette 2 base.Here is what the Cortina 2 looks like.

My Corvette as you can see doesn't have the greatest base but you get the idea. So I would say somebody at some stage has changed engines and bases.Also it looks very much like somebody also has fitted VC-160 handles to it.They don't go with that base at all.Can you see anywhere down the bottom where there could have been some welding done? Actually I think I can see that in your last photo.Not very clear but it does look a little different.They also didn't have the air filter or throttle control.That was the G3 carby set-up.

Looks to me like a V107 Cortina (71-72) which is supported by the series 70 muffler.

Your serial seems to indicate 1971, however I would expect to see more digits, specifically one or two more numbers at the front.

It is reasonably common for these first two numbers to be skewed, poorly stamped, or wraped around the crank case bolt housing, and therfore easy to miss.

Hey all
Ok so the curiosity of it all got to me and i pulled all my Victa books out still packed from moving house this is what i found.
they must of added an extra victa code for the 70-71 production ?

what year was the one you psted blumby ? seems it had the same type of lower 'bars as mine ? i think it's 67ish .. and one side has been welded (and not too well ) [Linked Image]

thats the 'ol girl , if you like a better pic' of the handle mounts ? they will come too . as far as i know its all honest and in one piece . if anyone knows its not plase tell me ? cheers . Dave

Those old crank (impulse) starters are cool... Unfortunately the ones on briggs' didn't work that well.... Over here they were more of a failed idea (like the "jerk start"......) than a reality, mostly because briggs' are rather hard to start at the best of times.... and from what I've heard victa's start easy.

Kori, they were very popular with a few brands over here during the 60's and early 70's.

Iv'e seen them on Victa 2 and 4 strokes(kirby engine), Turners (again, Kirby's), Scott Bonnars, rovers, and a number of others.

When the engine is kept in a good state, and maintained well, they are very usefull for anyone who struggles with a recoil, however if the engine is in a poor state of repair, and the machine hard to start, they can be a time consuming pain in the...

Simply, rather than pulling a cord a number of times, you need to repeat the latch, wind, release procedure, over and over again, which is a much slower procedure.

Not to mention, they dont allow you to put in extra effort and acheive a faster starting speed, which often helps the starting procedure.

And the slower starting speed is only exasibated on Victa 2-strokes, as Impulse starters were not coupled with decompressor valves, so they really dont acheive the same start speed as the 70's Zip start system.
