capelord, I would suggest that you get it welded by someone that does alloy welding otherwise you will just hunt around as that part is hard to get hold of second hand and on the cheap.

Welding is the easiest fix. If you want to start a home business of extremely low volume, after it is welded, take it to a good jobbing foundry and get them to sand-cast half a dozen, using your repaired one as a pattern. If the foundryman is any good he should be able to cast the teeth, from memory I think they may have been sand-cast in the first place. You could have them cast in either aluminium or iron. I think I'd prefer iron, since there seem to be a few of them around that are either broken or have lost their teeth.

Are you still looking for this? I have one on an incomplete 14 inch mower and I think it is identical.

Thanks for those pics Mick. I hadn't realised that there is a steel gear sector riveted onto the aluminium pedal, I had always thought the teeth were part of the aluminium casting.
I have the impression that is a sought-after item: one of the key parts needed in restoration, and one of the most frequently broken ones.

Hi All, just to add that the kick start spring is also highly sought after....but can be found sometimes on eBay in the UK.

The spring shouldn't be much of a challenge Deejay - given one to copy from, a supply of spring wire the right diameter, and a torch, it should be a ten minute job.

Yes grumpy, easy for some if you possess the right equipment...and know-how!

Just find someone as old as I am Deejay, everyone had to roll their own in my youth, cash money was a precious commodity in the 1950s, and into the 1960s. And once you start doing those things yourself, you usually remember how. Even so, of course I can't do them half as well as my father could.

Hi, I picked up a Atco kickstarter spring from this business in the UK, you could try them for a new lever. The spring was for my 14" Atco that I hope to restore soon. It starts and runs, I have cut my front lawn with it a few times. I also have a Scott Bonnar 14" which I also use occassionaly. http://www.oldlawnmowers.co.uk/
