Hi helpwithmy victa, and a warm welcome to the forum. We all like to learn new things and tinker here. grin

Re: your model ID, you are correct with your assumption, yours is a Model 5 Special...and is the 3rd of the model line out of 5 different bases manufactured for the Model 5 including the store brand, that was without the Victa logo.
Yours is a fairly late machine that has the edger slot, 2 side skirt holes, and no "Predicta Automatic" extensions on the height adjusters. The number and letters in front of your engine n umber supports this. wink
Are you going to restore it?.....we can help you here if you are. grin

Once again, helpwithmy victa, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.

Hi again, are you looking at selling the Automatic badge or the mower complete?....
Can you please give us a close-up pic of the badge.
Condition affects the price of these badges. wink
Thanks. grin

I have seen this on ebay, the automatic badge is not original, the air hose is from a late model victa, the chokes missing, not running I have seen similar ones go for $30-80 running they seem to go between $60-$120 or thereabout in that condition, occasionally you get some people bidding who havent really researched prices and it goes a lot higher lol

Thanks Joe...that pretty well sums it up, it all depends on condition, and how much someone is willing to pay for it.
That badge is from a Model 4 Automatic....this machine should have the Special badge on it, like this...

However, someone that is restoring a Model 4 may purchase yours just for the badge. wink

Hi helpwithmy victa.Just a little correction I know it doesn't change the value of it.It isn't the 3rd model it's the 2nd version of the model 5,but going form the engine number I'd say it's been changed. That number sounds more like a later model. As far as it's worth. Not a real lot. What I would do is take off the badge and sell it separately. You may get somewhere from $80 upwards for the badge. As they are not easy to come by.They did come on both the model 4 automatic and the model 4 standard, but still there are not a lot of them left.As for the value of the mower itself. It's hard to say,I've never paid more the $40 for one as there are plenty of them still left around. All you can do is try after all it's only worth as much as what somebody will pay for it.The market for them at the moment is down.I've seen heaps on eBay that just don't sell. All you can do is try, after all,all you need is 2 people to get into a bidding war and away it goes.

Here for a good time, not a long time.

yes thanks i had a little look and i think by sellig the badge and the wheels alone we should get more than our money back on it, we thought we had bought a bargin jut goes to show pays to do your research, the wheels are in good nic and still have there hubcaps on saw 1 other pair on ebay and the wanted starting price at 155 the other ones didn't have hubcaps and they wanted 100 so i figure parts might b our best call to get our money back smile

Hi Jeffrey, just for clarification, I put this machine as the 3rd version, you put it as 2nd....Jeffrey, this is how I rate them, please tell me where I am going wrong... wink

(1) 1st Model 5.....used original Model 4 base, 4 side skirt holes (2 on each side), edger slot, height adjuster extensions, (in other words a carry over from the Model 4 Standard, but with the Model 5 Special badge, using up the stock of parts that existed at the time.)

(2) 2nd Model 5....2 side skirt holes (right hand side only), edger slot, retained the height adjuster extensions.

(3) 3rd Model 5.....2 side skirt holes (right hand side only), edger slot, no height adjuster extensions.

(4) 4th Model 5.....No side skirt holes, no edger slot, no extensions.

Store brand....no Victa logo, different colour.(pseudo 5th Model)

Using my method, it places this machine as the 3rd version....Comments please, as this is how we learn new things here wink

Hi once again, the badge alone is rare....and collectable as they are made of alloy....this can fetch considerable $$ on eBay...the wheels may be of value to a collector...but since there are repo's available probably not as much...it all depends on what a person is willing to pay. wink
Best of luck,
cheers2

just one more question.....i can't work out why any1 would put a different badge on it and the colour all seems to b the same as the frame is it possible that it was a model 4 and the engine has just been replaced due to blowing up or dying??? from what i can gather where it came from was possible a old mans shed as all the other stuff they were selling seems to be from around the same era and it's a young fella selling it might have been a family members deceased estate i'm not sure but it looks to b that way.

Hi helpwithmy victa, how the badge come to be there is a mystery....but a lucky outcome for you as they are a highly collectible item. wink

Your machine is definitely not a Model 4, it does not have the axle cover or height elevator extensions for the "Predicta" flaps used on the Automatic, or the screw holes on the left hand side for the side safety rim guards that were fitted to all Autos, and a completely different base to the Standard 18 which had a 'safety ring' instead of the rim guards. wink
Here's a pic,

Hoping this gives you some explanation.

UPDATE....that hole in front of the right hand rear wheel in definitely not original....the original screw holes for the safety rim guards were on a small raised platform ..the same as the ones on the right hand side near the edger slot. wink
BTW, all Autos came with a recoil starter.
