I was just wondering if two stroke lawn mowers are about to go into the history books. Can you still buy them new?

There are still new 2 stroke victas about, give me an old one anyday though.

You can, but the range is limited.

Most hardware stores will have 1 Victa 2-stroke in the line up, which will be a base model.

Some will have 2, throwing a mid ranger on the table for you.

Victa's website has a total of 45 domestic push mowers, of which only 7 are 2 stroke.

Your best bet would be to find a Victa gold dealer if you want a better range, however they won't really help for the smaller budget.

Bunnings or equivalent will provide you with a basic victa 2, steel base, simple setup and ve160 eco-torque (powertorque variant) engine, using the new made in china block, but assembled here.

I can't say how much longer they will be around, but i doubt it's long, Victa is now a really just a badge used on mostly briggs gear sold in australia, I imagine eventually Victa will drop the 2-stroke engine, and the few honda powered models, and become a factory that assembles chinese bases for briggs engines.

we recently saw the 8 millionth Victa roll out, and this mower was the first victa million milestone not to have a Victa engine on it!

I do admit I hoard the series 70 engine with good reason, I will never need one of those new age machines in my lifetime, I might sell a few but guaranteed to always have a 2stroke available for myself.

I give it less than 2 years before they phase them out completely, then parts will get harder to get, but if they say parts arent available, a company technically has to have spares available for something like 7 years after it was made. A mate recently had this trouble with a line trimmer, and got a whole new machine outof it.

Not to mention that the bunnings 2 stroke is $100 dearer than the same machine wtih a 450 series 4 stroke Briggs on it.


Just shows you how cheap and nasty briggs have become.

The Victa story is quite sad in a way but does reflect the way business is done today. . I have not been following the Whos Who of the mower business at all lately . Believe MTD made a move on someone fairly recently but cannot recall just what I heard Cheers again Joe

here its near impossible to get a 2stroke engine new..... unless you buy them on amazon form other countrys.......and then its not worth it.......the only 2stroke engine they are making loads of still is the tec XLV(model here) motors.....but only some stores/retailers stock them.....darn shame..............

That's pretty much what I thought. I don't want to start up the old debate about 4 stroke versus 2 stroke. Victa already lost that one. On the other hand I do like the robust strength and simplicity of the old 2 stroke in a mower application. Makes me feel a bit sad to think their era is ending.

Good thoughts there Sparker...thankfully there are a lot of collectors out there saving the oldies from the scrap dealers; there will be many full-crank and Powertorque Victas faithfully restored and running to keep the marque alive...we are lucky to have quite a few of them as members of this forum.

Yes I feel the tears welling in my eyes as well.It will be a sad day,although I think the sad day had already happen when our Australian brand Victa was sold to an American company.As Deejay said let us all join together and keep these [Censored] fine 2 strokes restored and maintained.Yes they may soon be gone from retail shops,but they will go down with a fight,and a puff of blue smoke.Lets keep them fired up and revving the hell out of them self's!We'll show them that we do love them!Up the mighty 2 strokes!NOW LET"S MOW THE LAWNS WITH 2 STROKES AUSTRALIA!!
