If you cant check the compression, pull the muffler off & check for scratches on piston & cyl. wall. If its getting fire & fuel it should do something. But without compression it wont.

Jordan, Just put your finger over the plug hole and if you can feel the air blow past it then it is ok but if the engine turns over easily then the valves need to be refaced.

Another positive test for a Briggs engine of that horsepower is to remove the blower housing and with your hand, flip the flywheel backward, it should have a good sharp rebound when it hits the comression stroke, if not, its easy to remove the cylinder head and turn the engine over by hand to see if one or both of the valves may be stuck open, a common situation after an engine has been sitting idle for long period of time.

The spark plug gets wet? It was siezed? It sounds like you have a broken ring and a damaged cylinder wall, In other words, sooner or later it will have to be overhauled mk.farnam@gateway.net
