Anyone know how to adjust the carb on a Murray riding lawnmower with a Tecumseh 12hp engine? There is a screw at the bottom of the fuel/float bowl and another on the side. I can't get the thing to stop surging. Please help. Thanks in advance.

The screw on the bottom of the carby is the mixture jet open it out till the mower start to run rough then screw in till it starts to run smooth(Slowly).

Bruce,

Can you tell me what the screw is on the side of the carb? Thanks.

The screw on the side of the carby is probably used to adjust and set the idle speed.

The Initial adjustments on Tecumseh carb,
Turn high speed needle(bottom)in until you just feel it touch, turn needle out 2 full turns. Turn Low needle(side)in the and turn it 1 full turn out. SURGING can be caused by several different things.>loose carb/engine screws >bad mounting gasket >water in gas >Binding governor linkage/spring. If the egine has been setting out of use all winter the carb may need cleaning
