Hi There,

Finally got some pics of me mower and have decided to join. As you can see I am the proud owner of a Scott Bonnar 45. I had no idea about cylinder mowers or couch for that matter 3 years ago. My english wife wouldn't have a bar of Buffalo and it led me down a dangerous road. A few points about my mower:

- I love it more than anything else on this world
- Put a new Briggs & Stratton on it last year (the original motor karked it)
- If I had to choose between the lawn and the mower I would keep the mower (weird)
- I mow twice a week and fertilise monthly
- She's a 20 inch

I really like your site it is just brilliant. Great to see like minded people. I have no idea though (as you will find out). Think I need a new clutch cable and new catcher.

Do you guys have a Facebook page? I don't use Facebook myself but I think it would be tops to share mower and lawn stuff with people as only a handful of people seem to understand my addiction.

Anyway enjoy I gotta dash!!

Hi fanool, and a warm welcome to the forum. grin Its always great to welcome another Scott Bonnar owner.... wink
From my observations your machine is a late model....2 piece rear roller, 2 rail engine deck and vertical chain case screws. It may have been assembled by Rover as a Rover-Scott Bonnar, as I don't see the ID Plate riveted to the rear rail.
I see also that the front rail has suffered a fracture at some point and has been welded. wink

All parts are available and the clutch cable is an easy fix. The catcher seems to be in reasonable nick for its age and could be repaired and repainted. This would keep your machine original in the chassis side of things...(I too have replaced the Briggs with a Honda)
They are quite expensive to replace and hard to get for the 20" machine ....$200+

The cylinder reel looks in great condition and has plenty of meat on the blades.
It seems to have been repainted at some stage....the reel was originally orange; (I powder-coated mine "Signal Red" as I like the colour). You may consider sometime in the future to give it a complete paint job, it would do wonders for your machine and allow you to give it a thorough inspection at the same time.

Re: Facebook.....I personally don't use it....I believe it has privacy issues.
We do, however, encourage our members to post here at OutdoorKing, as it helps build a useful archive that can help new members down the track answer their queries.

Once again fanool, :welcome:

Thanks for your reply Deejay. After looking this site I can see that there are a few things I could be doing with my mower. I'll have a go at the catcher in winter and clean up the handle bars and sort me clutch cable and lever.

Hi again fanool, don't forget to post as you go along with the clean-up and please post some pics.
Please start a new thread in Repairs and Maintenance/Questions on Lawnmower Frames/Question on Scott Bonnar Cylinder Mowers. There is a different forum for full-on restorations, if you decide to go that way. wink
Best of luck with it mate....

It can have privacy issues, but generally that is due to the account never having the privacy settings changed when it was set up. My account is almost locked down as tight as a Ticks a....

Nice scotty mate, I have only ever used one but they are a good mower to use smile
