I have a 2 stroke Victa Tornado with a VSX 160 motor, fairly new. Last time I used it was working fine, then I went to start it up yesterday and fuel started flowing out of the hole in the rubber priming bulb as though the carby was flooding. Any suggestions on what to do? Many thanks, Basil

BasilF, Yes the carby is flooding and you can fix it with a new needle (cost about $3-00) or you will need a new primmer cap(cost about $15-00). If you are a suporter of the board you will have access to the parts list and manuals section which will show you what to look for to asses the problem.

Hi Bruce, I pulled the plastic primer plate off of the side of my victa carby (a bit silly because it didn't have a problem in the first place) but once I put it back on the fuel leaks out of the primer bulb. Looking at it there doesn't look as though there was ever any type of float needle to stop the flow and the float doesn't seal the hole to stop the flow. Thanks, Alex

Alex, It does have a float needle and I would assume that it has fallen out when you took the primer cap off. The needle is near where the float connects to the pin and it will be either white or black in colour. Make sure that when you put it back in that you have the pointed end in first otherwise it will still leak. We have information in the parts list and manuals area under Questions on lawn mowers.

Hi Bruce
Is pointed end first the right way? I thought the 'arrow' shaped end rested on the float and the 'nipple' end went into the jet? Thats how I have mine and it seems to work OK. The manuals are a bit vague on it...

Dave, The rounded end is to the float side and the point end is to the brass seat in the primer.

voodoo, Did you put the float on correctly and when it is on how much movement do you have for it to go up and down as some needles are slightly longer especially if it is a yellow one.

this ones a orange one, accually found the one i lost too, which was orange as well, so i guess the needles right, umm as from float , only seems one way it would fit,(lugs sit on the plastic stud) but when u put the needle up in the in the hole, it just stays there? or would fuel push it back down when its running?
also i saw on the carb information section that it mentioned emulsion tube? what exactly is that, is it part of the bass screw/jet?

Make sure that you put the point in first as one end of the needle is round. The fuel will move the needle unless it is tight in the hole I would be trying first before going any further with buying anything else. The emulsion tube is part of the old style carby jet screw. In your case you would not have to worry about it.

voodoo, You did follow the workshop manual directions didn't you? Did you replace the 'O' Ring on the primer cap? What fuel flow do you have from the tank to the cap (with fuel hose off cap)? Let us know how you go.

1. yup had a good look at manual, but ill have another skim through it
2. no i havent replaced the o ring, looks in good condition, but ill replace it just incase, but even when i dosent leak , it seems to die after starting ,
3.hmm steading flow, sort of like when your running a water tap at home and turn it down to when its still flowing but nearly about to start dripping
one other prob i have with it that maybe is causing it, is i think i might have threaded the thread in the tube that the jet screws into as it dosnt tighten when cap is on?
the reason i think its the carby float setup, is that before i pulled cap off it was running (not that well mind u) so silly me removed cap to see what was behind it, ive also changed spark plug, which i think helped as when it starts now it revs alot nicer now...before dying lol
anyway ill repace the o ring and see how i get on, otherwise think i just take it down to a lawn mower shop

voodoo, Just check one other thing and that is the fuel cap, it has a small hole so that it allows air in, just make sure that it is clean.
