Hi, I've got a Talon surefire 145 mower as part of an exchange for a working mower. The first thing I went to do was to clean the carby but on disassembly there wasn't any needle in it! Does anybody know the carby type? I have a feeling that a needle from a Briggs and Stratton carby might suit it as the engine looks like a copy of one. Does anybody have any experience with these? Thanks.

I Brew The Beer I Drink

ha ha i had one of those got it brand new from bunnings for $198, it ran like a dream for a couple of years till the starter rope snapped. then the problems started... trying to replace that the bolts that hold the cover on snapped when i tried to get them out they broke even more.
the engine couldnt be put back together after that so i pulled it to bits and a hell of a lot more bolts broke, i think they would be ok if they didnt have cheap shitty bolts in em
after that i replaced the engine with a briggs sprint from a mates mower with a stuffed base [at least the talon bases seem to be of decent quality]. that briggs engine ended up killing itself after a couple years though im pretty sure it had a bent crank from memory.
Cheers, Emmo
is it beer-o-clock yet

Ive found the Talons to be hit and miss.
You either get a real ripper or a total dud.
Most common issue with them is the throttle cable stuffs up. That in turn leads to starter abuse and it stuffs up. Its a write off then.

Yeah on mine the throttle is stuffed.
All of the ones I have had have been rubbish, generally now when I get given one I smile say thanks and walk them to the metal pile.

I stripped the carb on the current one ive got here. Well i didnt, i opened the carb up, threw it in the bin and grabbed a carb off one of the spare motors and cleaned it out. Got it back together and it runs OK. Thought i better try it and its gutless even for a Talon.
Now ive got rig up something to run it with that horrid starter/plastic cover off it so i can fiddle with the mixture screw. What a stupid idea, having it on the engine side of the carb where it cant be got at.
Then i found out why. GV150 Honda, carb looks like the exact same one they capied for the Talon, right down to the stupid screw pointing back ant the engine so you cant adjust the mixture while the engine/air cleaner is propperly assembled.
