I have recently inherited a fairly new Victa electric key start two-stroke. It had been standing for about two years, but with only minimal tweaking (a couple of minor leaks) and a new battery, away it went, first pop. Runs great, mows well. Electric start is great. Except...
it seems to run full speed all the time, and the speed lever has minimal effect on speed in the range. I had a look at the carbie info Bruce kindly posted on this site; this describes how the vacuum balance regulates the speed under load, but does not seem to mention the ability to vary the speed with the lever, which every other lawn mower I have had (admittedly, all 4-stroke!) is able to do. The biggest nuisance is that I cannot set an idle speed while emptying the catcher.
Speed regulation under load seems to work well; minimal speed variation as I hit heavy lawn. So the diaphragm and springs are probably OK. The "Stop" position works as expected, so obviously the cable is connnected to the cam which is turning.
Before I start pulling the carbie to bits, can anyone confirm that the speed is indeed supposed to be variable? The lever is only marked Stop..Start........Run.
I would appreciate any hints..
And a happy new year to all!

romeo,
The information on the carby via the board has all the information on the carby that you should need. As to the speed you will not have a lot of variation only when machine is under load.
