hi i have a 12 month old victa sport with the VS160 engine.from day one this has been gutless.not its worse.grass anything longer than about 10cm makes it stall.hardly revs at all.at one stage it had extremely high revs and no grass was to tough for it.not now
ive checked fuel flow its fine float and needle is fine.it blows a lot of smoke at low revs no matter how u mix the fuel.at full throttle the revs increase isnt much more than idle and it is getting full throttle.i suspect its a carby problem.ive read up on the governer and hi lo speed mixtures but dont know how to adjust them
im handy with the spanners so any advice on how to fix this before i burn it would be appreciated

MR MADST, Did you check the air filter? I am sure if you did you put it back in incorrectly. Regards, Bruce ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/board/biggrin.gif)

the air filter is fine.its not dirty the mower hasnt done enough work to make it dirty.its installed correctly.
man i wish they made a holley for mowers id be set then!
i think its got somethign to do with mixtures as its to rich at low speed and blows no smoke at higher speeds whatsoever.if u unscrew the jet thingy from the side of the carby a bit it picks up revs until u go to far and it dies.there was a vacuum chamber cover on the back of the carby which kept on falling off.i have fixed this but its still gutless.
so any ideas

MR MADST, As you look at the air filter when it is in the housing is the hole facing you? I have sent you information on the carby. Regards, Bruce ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/board/biggrin.gif)

the air filter is in the correct way.the hole pushes over the piping inside the casing.even taking the filter out completely doesnt make a difference.
found a problem this arvy in that the float needle had fallen out somehow.fixed that but it still wont rev like it should.from idle to max is very little difference.ages ago i got the willies and threw the mower across the yard.after straightening the handles(whoops) it was fine.a little to good in that it would rev its nut off and u had to back the throttle off.but wasnt any grass tall enuff to stall it.now hit some grass and it stalls.its like the governer is completly seized or not functioning as its defnitly getting full throttle as i checked that and it seems maybe the stupid governer is the problem.and im not amilier with governers.stupid idea anywasy.put a rev limiter on them and use the throttle to control the speed.
so any ideas from that?

well got in this morning and pulled the carby off.inside it was filthy with grass from where the governer diapraghm cover kept coming off.cleaned it out and seated the diapgrahm and installed cover properly.worked alright but still not enuff go power.after stuffing around with the governer i disconnected n plugged it completely.best thing ive ever done.theoretcially it should rev off its head but it doesnt.
any ideas on how to get more frunt from this thing?better carbies etc?

MR MADST, Victa's max setting for the RPM is 2900. You might have to change the springs in the carby. Regards, Bruce ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/board/biggrin.gif)

i tried it once with the governer spring completely out.and i left the cap off the governer and pushed it wide open with a screwdriver.it didnt rev any harder than what it does now so think its fine.as i stated in a previous post at one stage it would rev its nuts off for some reason and it was revving a lot harder then than it is now.
being the amount of gunk inside the carby from the governer cap falling off all the time i would say some has got sucked in and went thru the engine and it aint as healthy as it should be

MR MADST, Try running the mower without the muffler and if it runs ok just replace the muffler. You would be wasting your time trying to unblock it as you can get a new one for about $10-$15 on ebay. Regards, Bruce ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/board/biggrin.gif)

MADST
I reckon you need to check that the brass seating (and the ferule type thingy that projects up into the chamber) that the needle in the carby pushes up against has not been forced up such that the fuel flow is blocked or limited. mazza.
