Gooday People, Just back from WA and found this dumped on my back doorstep. One I didnt have - was missing the starter, but one fits from my haul from last month. Serial Number is 46802207. Is the filter chamber original on this? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/09/full-2933-3233-dsc06876.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/09/full-2933-3234-dsc06877.jpg) Stationary

Yep, that is a very good, original example of a 1968 160cc New utility.
The only issue i can spot is the new starter, I have a feeling these used the vaersion of that starter without chrome cover, and therfore the one without the mounting bracket welded on.
Apart from that, it all looks good to me!
Cheers Ty

Yep!!! That mower should come up well! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/09/full-5013-3260-newute.png) The difference in air filter to the above pic, is becase this model was released with a few different carbies, if you can pop up a carby pic, i can tell you which one you got!

Here are a couple of quick pics - let me know if you need cleaner ones. I also noticed a skirt around the base in the above drawing. I dont think mine has this - except at the rear. Dirty little devil isn't it? I note a clip over the top of the carby too, as well as the press-in primer button. The filter holder appears different too. That looks to be a 3S, the 160cc version of the 3L/3F carby, there should be a grove running around the stem, just near the top, under all the muck, that identifies it as 160cc. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/09/full-5013-3263-23s.png)

Yes Ty, had a look through the literature today and thought the carby might be a 3S. Thank you for verifying it. Need some assistance/knowledge. What filter body, filter and snorkle pipe do I need to purchase from outdoorking to suit this mower. Also will possibly need new carby gaskets and sealing rings etc or even fuel needles and seats etc, although I haven't yet seen the inside of the carby - it will probably be worn. Head gaskets I can make. Will be looking for wheels too I think. @Joe Carroll - starting restoration very soon and this will be the one I think. The engine has good compression, and it is basically all there. Fuel tank is in excellent condition inside. Badly needs a clean. Will do the usual and strip it entirely, rebuild the base and axles etc as there is some play there. Weld and re-drill the worn holes . Put all the steel parts in my vat to derust, then try and give it a good paint job, after matching the colour. Stationary

I dont know about getting an originall air filter body for that one, is the old one actually cracked, or just sun-damaged, becase I know a trick for restoring it if it is just sun damaged, and looking at the picture, it seems a good candidate. as to what is inside it, I'm having trouble working out exactly which length that is, no chance it still has remails of the last filter in it, if not, what is the lenght of the body, from bottom to top, with the base cap removed? If you do have to replace the body, the closest match in the store would be THIS and THIS is the closes snorkel i can find, it may need to be trimmed to lenght at the top. I cant find a carby bowl gasket in the shop, but bruce might be able to help you out, its the same one as for the 3l and 3f. Let us know how you go inside the carby, anything you need, and cant get from the store or bruce, i should be able to track down and post, carby parts are easy for that.
Cheers Ty

Thanks Ty, I will get the filter body and snorkel. The body is very badly sun damaged and is brittle - but still not cracked or anything. There are only two filters on offer so I will measure what's inside and go from there. Not game yet to attempt to take top off to get inside it...maybe tomorrow. As to the carby gaskets I can probably make them anyhow. Thanks for the assistance. Stationary

Dont go chucking that away just yet, I do beleive it can be saved.
I have worked out a method for fixing those right up, and I happen to have an eaqually sun-damaged one sitting on the shelf at home, so tonight, I will restore it, and take some photo's of my method in action, then post the outcome and some instructions.
It's reasonably simple to do, and should come up quite well, giving you the option to stick with the original air filter.
Those upside down 60's ones are tricky to find, it's always a good idea to save them where possible.
Cheers Ty

I like the upside dowm ones too. The right way up ones the caps tend to cop all the damage.
I also notice in the line drawing model picture that theres no quick release for the handle. Looks like the nut its got is whats meant to be there. Seems a bit stange. Hardly a selling point.

That set up is the older quick release, Actually quite a good release system, that bar just pops straight up.
I'll photograph the one I have in action, really one of my favorite release mech's.
Cheers Ty

There pretty good, the only issue i have ever had, is not noticing the throttle cable slipping into the gap, and slamming it locked with my foot, costing me a throttle cable!
