Hi guys I just thought I would post up some pictures of my Victa Twins. Not a side often seen.I guess it will be a bit unfortunate, but by the time I finish I guess there will only be one,and a pile of parts. [Linked Image]

The New ones cowl seems to be in good shape, sticker too!

And the new base seems less beat up at the front, pity about that cut in it's side though!

Someone must have done something funny to that catcher to get it on there!

How much engine is left on the 2nd one, and does it turn over?

Cheers
Ty

Yes I will be using cowl from second one,it has it's problems but I think it will be easier to fix that one and get a better finish on it.Well even though there is that cut out section in the new base.I'm going to have to take it too an engineer and fill that gab.As it is a much better base.My first one has the rough front and well as worn on both sides and 2 cracks on right side. The new base has only that piece missing.I thought you'd like the catcher,I laugh after I'd seen it.When I first pulled up to get it,I thought great another catcher until I got closer then started laughing when I see how they did it.Motor is still complete, carby G4 just missing fuel bowl bits.I was getting excited I thought great I'll see if this works got underneath no [Censored] muffler. Not happy was hoping it was there.Any way it did say not complete.Nothing I can do about that.

I don't know where you would get that gap filled, but I'm sure someone can do it.

Between the two you should be able to get a great twin together, and have a good lot of spares to keep it serviced!

Yeah well I was thinking that whomever I get to fix the base could always just cut that section out of the other base and weld it in.[Censored] it being alloy,if it was steel then I could do it.It's funny when I cleaned the motor down today it came up cleaner than the first motor. Not that's to say it's a better motor,it's just cleaner.Though by the time Goliath's motor comes of for the big job I'm sure I'll get it clean.

I would suggest filling the gap with a peice from a different mower, not golitath's base.

If the guy doing the patch stuffs up, you could end up with 2 useless bases! Goliaths may have some cracks, but it would be best left as a backup till you have the other base finished!

I've got nothing here that has the same sort of edging here.See that would be the hardest part, getting the edge to look and be the same.I mean sure you could get a flat piece of alloy welded in but there's a raised lip at the bottom, then I guess it would have to be bogged up.Then the problem would be a slight pump in that part and the bog (Body filler) would either have a mark or fall off.So really need something similar to start with. It's ok the guys I use at Fyswick are very good with alloy. The last place I worked for we got them to make from scratch an alloy bull-bar for the truck I use to drive.[Censored] excellent job it was.So I'm sure they can handle a mower base.

Well have a look if you like.As my original idea was to try and sell a base once I had done the Goliath job.I guess if I cut a whole in it,it isn't worth a [Censored] thing then.

Thanks for that emmo1980,but I'm sold on the engineers I will get to do it.I have seen there work with alloy and it's outstanding. So they win my vote. Also not being into boats and not really having a lot of water here,I wouldn't even know where boat repairers are here.I'm sure there would be.

OK just an update, pulled the second twin down and sent the base of to the engineers to have that piece welded up.Hopefully it will work out as it is a better base than the other twin.Fingers crossed.I should find out some time this week on how it went. Also bought some paint last week so hopefully will be able to start the restore soon.

Good to hear more work is starting!, I might have myself another twin as well, an old bloke who I didnt know fixes lawnmowers in town invited me to his place last weekend, there would have been a minimum of 500 mowers there, in the back cornwe of a shipping container was a pretty good looking twin I can have fairly cheap.

He also informed me he had a brand new twin in the original box he sold last year for $4k, obviously since it was new and never run it would be worth more, but there are some real cashed up collectors out there!

You should look into whether he has any other mowers worth crabbing.I have a long list of ones that I'd like to get.

Well I think I will be seeing him more often, I am grabbing the twin and the 85cc victa he has (the little one is missing the handles though frown

I did spot a few I liked though, his scrap bins would have hundreds of old bases in them.

hi joe i think you will find that the bolts to mount the engine will be standard unc threaded bolts id guess maybe 5/16unc available at bunnings for around 40cents each just take the engine there and match em up.

yeah photos would be great if he would let you take some, just tell him what we are like with mowers around here, explain that he would have no security risk id hate to think someone from this site would go and knock off someones mowers, we would all love to see a collection that big...........
