Hi all

This is the Victa 18 Standard that I recently purchased. It needs some work on the carby as the carby leaks fuel constantly. Maybe a needle and seat issue? Also the fuel tank does not allow fuel to flow out of the fuel tap. Any ideas on what could cause this?
The mower does run with a fuel tank attached but only at full throttle and will stall and die at aything below that.

If someone could give me more info on this mower that would be great.

The second pic shows the orginal manual that came with it as well as the orginal tool.

First pic shows mower:

Firstly DO NOT lose that manual, it is very valuable these days...

Looks like a very tidy victa 18 there! It has the wrong air filter housing, it may be having trouble running also without the snorkel tube, these were cut to adjust the tuning in the past.

Chances are the crankshaft seals are leaking, afterall they are probably years and years old, they are pretty cheap and good insurance on your motor.

Yeah Joe I'm pretty sure that the seals are shot.
Do you have any ideas as to how I could fix the carby. It pours fuel over ovder the place, I have checked the needle and seat and both seem fine.

Just a little correction there. It's not a Victa 18 standard it is actually a Model 4 standard.1957-59.It's not the automatic. It does have the bolt holes on either side to put the side guards on it.You could also put the automatic badge on the handles bars and it would still be correct. There is some argument that victa made quite of lot of these to be the automatic, but they flopped. So then they were send out without the flaps and the dual cable carby and classed as a model 4.

Send some pictures on a post, and I'll do the best I can to identify them. I must admit I'm fairly good on the older Victa's in fact that's what most of my collection is.I just love the older lads.

What defines an actual "Standard"

I often find it hard to work out the difference beween it and the early 60's utility's.

Cheers
Ty

After the Model 8 in 1960-61 there ways only one more standard. The style and design had changed. The base was similar, except for the axle brackets instead of being 4 separate bars they became one hole piece. It also had a Sheerline cowl on it.That was in 1961-62.It also came standard with the toe ring (not that they properly would now). After that they most likely would have been utility's.So I guess if they look like stardards and have the one piece that the axels attact to then they would be utility's.[Linked Image]

The pictures here are of the Model 8.Hope they turn out. [Linked Image]
The last picture is the only picture I have of the Last standard model from 1961-62.See the straight through pieces for the axles and the Sheerline cowl.I hope that helps.
