My mower is about 10 years old. The battery now longer works but you can still start with pull start. However, it is very hard to start. I've tried new spark plugs etc.
After ten years what would you suggest I need to look at please?

I would start with these items first:

1. Check fuel flow from the tank to the carby. If it is very slow replace the fuel tap and check that the vent in the cap is clear as well.

2. Check that you have a nice blue spark on the spark plug. If not it could be the electronic module that needs to be replaced.

3. Remove the muffler and check to see if the exhaust port is blocked up with carbon. If so clean out the port and also check the muffler is blocked.

4. Check ring gap with a screw driver by pressing on the ring and if you have too much movement replace the rings.

a new gel cell battery will cost no more than about A$40-50 from **** smith electronics. Cheap investment that will solve your problem.
