I have found an Australian made Vinco slasher/cultivator.
I can't find any information on Vinco.
It is powered by what I assume is a victa engine
although it has a Zenith Carburettor.
It was seized but I now have it running.
The engine seems very small and it maybe a replacement.
Can anyone tell me anything about Vinco?

Rod,

It looks like a victa 125cc engine. As to Vinco I will speak to a few contacts regarding that make of machine.

I have not seen that type of machine before. bigshock

Thanks for your help.
I found this reference to Vinco on the net

007424 Blitz booklet var. sizes attachments, parts, specs. (photocopy), 12 pages, $6.50
007423 Blitz brochure 4-stroke garden cultivator (photocopy), 2 pages, $2.50, 1 copy in stock

Note the 4 stroke engine which would probably be more appropriate for this type of machine.
I asked one old mate who seemed to think Vinco made marine engines and castings. He speculated that they may have been sold to Metters?

Definitely a stange one.

Hi Rod Miller I sold a few of these Vinco cultivatrs and hav just spent a few minutes looking thru some old Trade Fairs pics but none of these have the tiller shown. I have seen some old brochures kicking around the shed at times so if i come acrros one I will pass it on. The unit I sold were a light green colour and had 4 strokes engines . The had a mowing head which fitted on the end of the shaft where the cultivator was /
I looked thru the old pics as I recall selling one off the stand to a fellow in charge of the RAAF Central Band which was in action playing at a Trade Fair I was at. Regards Joe Brown

Thanks for the information. The story is slowly coming together. I bought the pamphlet from the internet and it seems it came with a 4 stroke and a 125cc 2-stroke (Bruce was right). It was manufactured by Vincent Bros. P/L in Association with J.E.Shay Ltd Basingstoke U.K. and sold and serivced by Vinco Sales 947 Victoria Road West Ryde Sydney. I found it out for a clean up not far from this address so I am guessing they bought it new. It was seized when I found it and from the amount of rust in the cyclinder I don't think it had run for 20 years or more. I bascially took it apart cleaned out the rust and reassembled it and it started! I think it possibly needs new rings as
it runs for a while then stops and is hard to restart until it cools down. I should find the correct spark plug for I am only using the plug from my modern day victa which is probably a bit short. I will have to hunt around for some wheels.
If you find your brochuers I would love to see them. Thanks for the help.

I wonder if you could cast your eye over these gears from the Vinco "Shay" gearbox. http://www.montevideomaru.info/For%20James/Gearbox.htm
It took a bit to get the mower plate off and when I opened the gearbox instead of oil they had filled it with grease which needless to say didn't lubricate it properly. I know this is difficult but in your opinion are the gears worth repairing? The brass bearing seem quite good.

Hi Rod Miller Glad you found out a bit more info . I have not come across any of my old stuff but if I do so will let you know. One of the more succesfull of these Do It All sort of garden machines was the Solo Multimot It had a lot of attachments and they all worked well I still have an engine 22cc which transfers drom attachmwennts in4 0r 5 seconds and all throttle attachments connects up automatically . I have a bent shaft trimmer plus a small cultivator and a compressor stil . I sold off a high pressure and low pressure volume pump.some time ago
Hope you have fun with the Vinco All the best to all on tis site for the New Year Joe

G'day all members
This old post is from the 'Two Stroke Lawnmower Frames' forum.
It will be moved shortly, as it is more correctly a cultivator.

I am yet to write directly on Vinco.
Their story needs to be told.

The Vinco is a copy of a British design.
They were popular here in the 1950s and 1960s.

I think this topic relates to the Vinco Blitz in its
1950's 2-stroke form. The engine was most likely of
Vinco's [Vincent Brothers] own manufacture.
