Hey guys I got a couple of old victa 160cc 2 stroke mowers both are the series 70 mark 4 with the alloy base and g3 carbs. now the main one i use has had a fresh piston / rings put through it, a little of the head on some glass with some grinding paste and a hone by hand with some sand paper. This thing revs its ass off.... but the only problem I'm having is its chewing through blades like no tomorrow, especially on one side. Is it possible I have lined the base plate up so on the exhaust stroke is coming out onto the blade? It seems I'm only getting about 10-15 lawns out off a set and one side is always worse than the other one. Any ideas would be great, Thanks.

Pictures would help.
Pics of the machine and a before and after of the blades.
I had the same blades on my Victa Mustang for 8 years. They were still good when i sold it.

That hasn't been caused by exhaust heat. When the engine is running the blades are cooled by air movement.
It looks to me as if the blade may have been damaged by cutting something other than grass. You haven't been hitting some sand have you? That might grind through the blades.

i have been over a few pacthes of dry sandy dirt that gets thrown up everywear when you go over it i supose that might have the same afect as sand but would all that friction grinding on the blades cause that heat damage? it is an old victa mustang too by the way

Hi All, it seems strange that just the upturned tip appears damaged...and does look as if a lot of heat has been applied; grumpy, I agree with you, sand could be the culprit...but why is the underside of the deck and the rest of the blade not appear sandblasted....Real mystery here....

The underside of the body looks clean and sorta sand blasted to me.
Ive seen blades like that here.
Crap quality blades??? They are not the JakMax blades are they??? If they are go get some BPL blades from Bunnings and see how they last.
