my ride on suddenly started going very slow in forward but normally in reverse(its a heel/toe).It came good after a while but is since very jerky when going from forward to reverse & vise-versa. Any ideas? Its a Peerless 205-050C in a Cox/Kingcat 32"made in 1999.

Is it possible to check and top up the level of hydraulic fluid? The symptoms sound typical of a low fluid level.

the transaxle in my Cox (peerless 204-040c)is discontinued. Is there a replacement unit with the same footprint that will drop straight in? I realise it'll be expensive.

The Peerless transmission manual on the Outdoorking site (Section 11, page 63) describes a set of tests you should perform on their hydro drive before you decide the transmission is trashed. Its title is TECUMSEH / PEERLESS MOTION DRIVE SYSTEM

It doesn't tell you how to repair anything, but it can be useful in figuring out what is wrong.
