Hi all, now that summers picked up i have been getting quite a few mowers to fix.
I got a Victa Powertorque, its newish, its the type with the large cooling fins, straight intake manifold and kind of curved cowl on top.
Anway the problem is that its flooding but.....
Its flooding so i changed needle, changed cap and float nunerous times. finally i found a good combination of the three. I even did a bench test with a dissassembled carby just to double check. Put that on the mower and let it sit with the tap in the on position for about 5 minutes. It didnt leak YAY, i run it up and cleared all the old fuel and it was running great.I turned the throttle off and let it sit and it started to flood again.
I have spent many many hours on this mower and is slowing all my other mowers down, many "f"s were thrown around.
It only leaks after its been running what the hell??
the guys at GYC suggested that i bend the float so that it closes earlier, now thats fair enough but why only when its run up?
Thanks so much i really need to get rid of this mower and never see it again!

Once it starts leaking, does it still leak after it's been standing a while and cooled down? From the symptoms, it sounds possible that garbage is getting in between the needle and seat, and each time you run it, a fresh piece of crud gets in there. Did you clean the inside of the tank, the fuel filter, and the fuel hose?

Apprentice level 3
Hi jeffro,i understand that this job is a pain in the a-but treat it as a challangeas a learning curve.do as grumpy sugested and also take off the primer cap and thoroughly clean the outer edge and inside the carby housing where the "o" ring sits.check or replace the o ring,if they are a little off line when you put the cap back on or tiny cracks/perrishing they will leak.also the horizontal line on the face of the cap has to be horizontal to make the float level work correctly.i appoligise if you already know/have done this...ken

The G4 carby is prone to leak if you leave the fuel tap on for any extended period of time. As to GYC telling you to bend the float that would not have been a mechanic but a salesman.

Note that you can buy two types of needles for the G4 carby and one is shorter than the other. I would suggest that you have a look at the online store for more information on the needle. cheers2

Hi thanks for all the replies, Usually i do take these as learning experiences but this has gone on for too long. Once i had a Tanaka and i cleaned the carby and didnt realise that id tightened the mixture screw up.
Ill clean the lines and the tank really really well tomorrow and keep you updated.
Bruce, with the different needles how do i tell what i need? i had a look, do i need to match up the part number on the primer cap with the needles part number?
