My Victa 160 utility mower was going fine untill it ran out of fuel. I filled the tank but it won't start. I can't get fuel to the primer bulb. I pulled the face plate off the carby and checked the needle and seat but that made no difference, I blew through the filler cap and air came out of the overflow ( after a bit of a blow) but still no fuel flows through, any ideas?

Does fuel come out of the fuel line if disconnected from the primer plate at the carby with the fuel tap turned on? Cheers Joe.

Yes no problem there, it's strange because the mower was running fine until it ran out of fuel

The float valve might be sticking a bit.

Definately got sparks?? I was mowing with mine the other day, stopped to answer the phone, mower would not start. The HT lead had busted off at the plug.

Cheers, Bob.

yep plenty of spark, I 99.9% sure it's a fuel problem. There is no fuel getting to the primer bulb. Thanks

Okay, if it's not getting fuel to the primer, then seems it points to a blocked fuel-line, tank, or fuel-tap (if it has one). I don't know much about Victa's but that's where I'd be starting. Disconnecting the fuel line, cleaning out the fuel tank and blowing air through the fuel-line and tap. If still no fuel getting to the primer then maybe the intake jet is blocked??

From what you have said, you haven't checked that fuel will run out of the fuel line at a decent rate when the line is disconnected at the carburetor end. Running out of fuel is a great way to get all the crap in the tank to accumulate at the outflow point. Being able to get a small amount of air through doesn't tell you anything much: fuel "wets" the crud and can stick it together and block it solid.

I did say that fuel was running out of the line when disconnected, and you are quite right when you say that running out of fuel will collect all the grunge in the tank and block everything up; that was my first thought but Iv'e checked everything from the tank to the primer. IE tank, tap, fuel line, needle and seat. I'm stumped! Thanks for your thoughts anyway

on an empty tank gunge wont come through on a victa as they should have a filter ontop of the tap, the filtewr will strain out any particles that would cause trouble.

try pulling off the air filter tube up near the throttle control and pour a tablespoon of fuel down it, if it fires then, try blocking the air tube with your hand while pulling the rope, if there is a blockage this "may" clear it without pulling the carb to bits.

A good suggestion I'll give it a go. I don't particularly want to strip the carby, as I haven't had anything to do with this type, so I'll give anything a go first thanks again
