One of the lads found this beast in his old mans shed and thought I would like it since I'm into old stuff
It is a Scotty Supercut 20inch and powered by a Villiers mk12 motor

Shedpest,

Really good looking machines that you have there. If you are going to restore them it would be great to see pictures of them as you go along. cheers2

That chaincase on the 20" looks like an aluminium casting. A very classy mower. Should have a Briggs of course, but well worth keeping it original now. Strange that the catcher needed to reach up so much higher on the 17".

Hi to Shedpest and grumpy, That is indeed an aluminium chain case cover, and considering that this machine was first produced in 1950, was very classy! The Model 17 Supercut (petrol) was a professional machine with some great features such as 2 clutches;(you will notice 2 levers in the pics)the first operates the cutter clutch, and the second operates the roller clutch, to allow traversing across the lawn without the cutter reel engaged.
congrats Shedpest on a great score!
cheers2

Deejay, the two-clutch system doesn't look as natty as the one on the really old big ATCOs, but they achieve the same outcome. Not sure about the toolbox either - doesn't suit my delicate aesthetic sensibilities. However, this one is Australian, and it sure looks good for its age.

It sure is a beauty,I gave her a big birthday, oil, lube grease-up, new plug, adjust cylinder blade, fresh fuel and she went first pull....very,very happy
She is a bit of art to use but got the knack of it quite quickly
Rumour has it the old boys got a Scotty Queen 30incher in mint condition tucked away in the back of his shed as well...MMMMMMMMM

I should make it clear that the SB roller clutch would have been a lot easier to use than the original ATCO one - you can operate the SB one with your left thumb while keeping both hands on the handlebars. The ATCO had two clutch handles like the SB blade clutch. My admiration of the 2-clutch ATCOs is aesthetic, not functional. Besides, I used to admire one when I was 6-7 years old. I got myself imprinted with an attitude.

Hi grumpy, frightfully British attitude there, old man, wot! lol My childhood impressions probably were inculcated by our residence overlooking a Bowling Club in Brisbane, with a Scott Bonnar "Queen" mower traversing back and forth across the greens and the rendition sung by all bowlers of "God Save the King" before each game! grin

Deejay, we used to have to sing GSTQ at every visit to the movies, before the process started. I seem to recall it happened in school assembly period, too. One way and another, they certainly succeeded in turning me off, I can tell you. I guess all that nonsense was a sort of Australian equivalent of Joe McCarthy's depredations in the US.

Yes grumpy, you're spot on there mate, by the time I got to school, QE 2 was on the throne so we sang GSTQ at assembly and the movies also....great memories....deep canvas seats, popcorn, and a packet of KOOL cigarettes.....we thought we were invincible! lol

Hi Shedpest, here is an early advertisement for Scott Bonnar, showing a Model 17 Supercut at the bottom...

This may give you some idea of the early colour scheme. wink
