Hi and thanks for looking at my first post.

I have a rover ranger ride on with the rear mount 10.5hp engine and it has developed a problem.

It has the rocker pedal that shifts from forewards to reverse. When I shift to reverse everything is ok and it has nice firm engagement. However, when I shift forewards, it hardly moves and feels like the friction drive is slipping. If I stab the pedal, it engages firmly.

I have a hilly block and don't want to kill myself.

Thanks.

We need more information, eel. Can you give us a model number, year of manufacture, and if possible a photograph as well? Until we know what kind of transmission it uses, we are in the dark, and to find that we have to be able to look in a manual for that model.

eel, your mower has a belt drive system, and Rover says that if the forward and reverse functions become "unbalanced" you should make this simple adjustment:

This is from the owner manual for the 53179 but I'm guessing the differences are minor. If you don't have a copy of the owner's manual, you can download it from the parts lists and manuals section of this site (you have to subscribe).
