I have a Meadowbank Villiers Mower 98cc, Serial No.797 made by William Peeler P/L. I have been told this mower was made in about 1940-1950 and would like to know what the value would be and if it is of interest to a collector.

Annie, Yes I did receive the pic's and have been trying to get information on the unit but without any luck at this time. I will keep looking so that I can give you some sort of value on the machine. Maybe Joe Brown might be able to help as well. Regards, Bruce

Hi Annie Inow have your pics and must say it is a new one on me. I had a mower with a similar frame called a Purvis Special but not sur if I still have it .I will have lookin my pile. The handle bracket looks very similar to the one used by Pace mowers at one stage. Any chance of getting a pic close up of the folding bracket on the handles I have been looking for Meadowbank around the traps and come uo with a place in Canada and a place in Cornwall . The Meadowbank in Canada has a Lawn mower shop but no email address so I will keep going on that one . On the pic from over the top of the starter there appears to be a coil with a lead coming from it .This would be an addition at some time if that is indeed if that what is looks like Bye for now Joe

Hi everyone Just to keep the pot boiling on this Meadowbank mower. I have had a look in a 1963 ACL piston ring catalogue and there is the Meadowbank listed Just One model only and its described as a 16 inc cut. In the same book I see there are 5 Villiers engines of 98cc The one listed as being fitted to the Meadowbank is the MARK 2 regards Joe

Hi Joe The mower cut is 16" and it is 98c.c. I could not spot an engine number but perhaps i'm not looking in the right place! It looks as if the handles are bolt into place and don't appear to fold down. Perhaps the handle was broken t some time and was permanently fixed in the upright position. This mower seems to be causing some mysteries. The makers plate is screwed to the top of the blue cover over the blades. Sorry I can't be more technical Annie <font face="verdana, arial, helvetica" size="2">Originally posted by Joe Brown: Hi everyone Just to keep the pot boiling on this Meadowbank mower. Hi Annie Thanmks for you reply. I have a couple of good scouts going back to the real early days of lawn mowers in this Country One has suggested and is an interesting thought that it may heave been bought out here by someone emigrting from UK. It is possible but what puts me off is the makers name having the words PTY Ltd/ I came from UK in 1956 and had never heard or seen PTY as part of a Company Name . /I think if was English it would have just been William Peeler LTD. It would be quite a powerfull mower with a 98cc engine with only a 16 inch cutting width I will be away for about 2 weeks after the end of this week so dont give up if there are no more posts from me and I will be back as soon as I get back. Some one may add some comments to this subject while I shut up Joe

Hi Rhys ....Just a note on the Meadowbank mower . I bought this mower from Annie and it is not what you say it is.. I have some pics of it and will put up on this site . I have just re-prganised my phot Bucket account but need the official address to send the pics . Tried Outdoorking.com but P/B wont accept that Just briefly I did find out that the actual mower was made in Melbourne etc and have the address but its most likely all gone now as I know a lot of development took place in the area but I have not been along to have look. . My scouts were unable to find any information about the Meadowbank for me but I do have some more leads to follow up and I will post some pics when I get the right address to send them to. Cheers Joe
