Hi I've got an older Victa Commando two stroke with the Elliptical blade plate, the manual and instructions say the blades should be loose, but how loose. I think one of my diamond holes is a bit worn so getting the bolts tight can be a bit tricky at times.
I tightened them so there is no movement in the bolt but the blades swing easily - is that right?
Thanks

Sounds perfect. It will soon get packed up with mushy grass fibre and that will tend to add a bit of resistance to swinging around. I expect to be able to push the blades back with hand pressure after that happens.

Thanks will give that a go. I take it this is the reason for always cleaning the grass off the blades after mowing.
Thanks again/

Seanm, The blades should not be really loose, they should be firm to move amd not that tight that you cannot move them. The reason for the blades being able to move is because if they hit an object they will swing back (so they don't break) and then return to the correct position in operation. Hope that this is of some help.

Sean, the blades have to be able to swing back when they hit something, and they have to be able to swing out again just due to centrifugal force. The need to be able to swing out again is the reason to keep them from getting so bound up with grass fibre and mud that they are more or less stuck. So yes, it is useful to keep track of them: check occasionally that you can swing them back, then swing them out again, with your hand. Be careful of course: always remove the sparkplug lead before you put your hand under the mower, and wear a decent leather glove when you try to move the blade - it has (or should have) a sharp edge.
