G'day everybody, today I bought a Husky 181 saw at auction for $20 with a broken piston. The barrel looks okay and the rest of the saw looks alright too. Where (if anywhere) can I buy a piston for my saw? Should I try the local husky dealer, or are there cheaper aftermarket pistons available?

Thanks for your reply Bruce. I found my local husky dealer location and I'll check it out this week.I'm expecting a hefty price though (I may be wrong), do you know who sells the aftermarket pistons for my saw?

Hi Bruce, I checked my local Husky dealer and he wants $135 for a piston and ring kit which sounds a bit steep to me. Then he tried to sell me a new saw! Can't blame him for trying I suppose. If you could find an aftermarket piston it would be great thanks. The serial number is 5240172

jim o'donnell, I have checked around but unable to locate one for that model. Is he quoting for piston rings & cylinder. If so then that price is good but if it is only for the piston and rings I would be trying a few other places. ![banghead banghead](/forum/images/graemlins/default/banghead.gif)

Hi Bruce, thanks for looking. The price was for piston and rings only. I'll keep hunting around. Is it possible to match a piston off it's size?

jim o'donnell, I think that would be extremely hard to do as I have never done that before. ![confused confused](/forum/images/graemlins/default/confused.gif)

Just for a comparison, i recently bought a Poulan 2450 which has a 38cc motor, the cylinder, piston & ring had just been replaced before i bought it. The cylinder cost $110.00 and the piston & ring cost $46.00. The last owner ran it with straight petrol, no 2 stroke oil!
