I received a freebee Homelite_XL UT 10618 chainsaw. I borrowed some gas/oil mixture from a friendly landscaper. I managed to start the engine without much problems, but oh boy, it seemed like the whole neighborhood was on fire due to the exhaust smoke.
What gives: too rich a mixture? Do I need to overhaul the carb? Piston rings worn out? Other suggestions? Thks.

Some chainsaw have the oil tank for the bar oil adjoining the crankcas and if the gasket fails can suck the bar oil into the crankcase and then burn it along with fuel . They can sure throw a lot of smoke when this happens Joe
