Hi All,

Here is a good video but note that he should have said 600ml instead of 500ml of oil. Otherwise you will find this is worthwhile watching. cheers2

He says fill the old no-dipstick engines (prior to about 1982 I think) right up to the top of the oil filler hole thread. I've always filled mine to the bottom of the thread, which is about a centimetre below the top. Is he right, or am I?

I fill it to the top of the slot that goes along the thread.

I've always filled mine to the bottom of the thread, the main thing is to check the oil level regularly. I thought the video was pretty good.

If you measure 600ml of oil and then put it in to the engine (after removing old oil) you will find that the oil level will come up to the top of the thread. cheers2

Hi all,
I just went and checked my Briggs factory manual, and the Paul Dempsey equivalent and they both state to fill until the hole over flows. I have always hated these oil fillers, because it takes so long to fill them and its so easy to spill oil everywhere.

Thanks, sounds like I'd better change my ways and end up slopping even more oil over the base. Oh well, I guess at least the base gets wiped over regularly that way. gmax, I agree - I always find that guy's clips interesting and useful, but this one was better than usual.
