Hey guys long time member probably the first post iv made.
I have a victa tilt-a-cut with a 160 full crank in it. It come to me with a crack in carby, Iv replaced this piece and any others pieces that needed it.
Now when it runs the throttle lever is totally out of whack! Full throttle is where it should be but it dies at about half.
It has nothing to do with the kill wires or the throttle adjustment screw. I had a thought while posting this, could it be that there are different length poppet valves?
Iv been doing this for a while and many of you may have seen my videos on youtube under this same name Geoff390.

There is 3 different types of poppet valve I have seen, one is black for early G4's one is white and has ABC settings and one is white and only has AB settings. Does it run normally if you try another carby on it?

Jeffro,

Welcome aboard to the forum and congrats on your video's. I think we have used some of them here in the forum.

Anyway to your problem I just have a couple of questions to ask.

1. Are you making sure that the diaphragm has not partially dropped in when putting the cap on?

2. Do you have a washer (about 1.5" dia) on the outside of the diaphragm?

If you have the large washer on just remove it and see if it improves things.

Let us know hoe you get on please because it helps all the members here. cheers2

Hi thanks for the replies.
I will check all that tomorrow and report back.
I am moving more seriously into now that im finished school and i had no idea there were so many different types of pieces EG: different length poppet valves, I assume LM and G4 carbs are similar but i dont know the difference.
Are there any books or references you could give me. I will be searching the forums for some of the answers
thanks!

I own the gregorys victa manual among others

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GREGORYS-VIC...=item335493ceea&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Lots of great info, I still read it sometimes to catch up on things.

other books I have are

Gregorys small engines manual

scienific publications rover rotary mowers.

Pretty much covers most engines for me, the small engines manual even covers things like the 170 and 85cc victa engines.

Hi,
I borrowed one of the victa manuals from my local library and read the carby and ignition pages, didnt explain as much as id hoped but it did help.
I changed the popped valve to a white one (it had a black one) and now it idles fine but now when it revs it sounds a bit like a hit and miss engine.
I used it just then to do the edges and it runs and sounds great once cutting.
Im guessing that not having the cutting disc on the engine (although it does have some cast iron in the flywheel) means that it doesnt run very smoothly (no flywheel). I have noticed this on most victa edgers.
Any thoughts? Also how do i explain this to.... hmmm.... less mechanically minded people at garage sales, i guess id have to show them while its cutting.
thanks
