Hi all, nice to have you guys to turn to and hopefully get me on the right track.

I have a Scotty. The ID plate says:
Scott Bonner Australia
Mower No. 33 08187
It has a 6 blade 16" reel.
It is also a belt drive.

It needs another motor (B&S 3hp just blew up), but before I start to spend money on it, I'll need to replace the reel and the bedknife.

Queries..
1) Any help as to what year it is.
2) Are the reel & bedknife parts still available. Rough price as well please smile

Also, any ideas as to the year of the last manufactured model 45 17".
I'm considering buying one if repairing mine isn't an option.

Any help/advice appreciated

Hi Peatert,I would like to wish you a big warm welcome to the forum. yay It's nice to have you onboard.
I am also a Scott Bonnar addict and hopefully can give you some help.
The model 33 Scotty is a fairly rare beast and was manufactured to my knowledge in the late 50's and was the forerunner of the Model 45. From what I have been told, they are not easy to get parts for; especially new parts. If you could get a new cylinder 6 blade cutter (which I doubt), you could expect to pay between $350-$400 including new bearings and shield washers. A 6 hole bottom knife blade would set you back about $40-$50.

However, the Model 45 Scotty is a different matter, and as far as I am aware, are still being manufactured by Rover as the Rover 45. Consequently all parts are still readily available. wink
If you are considering buying a 45, you can pick one up, second hand, in very tidy nick, for between $350-$450.
Just check out Scott Bonnar on e-Bay, you may just grab yourself a bargain grin
Hope this has been of some help to you,
cheers2

Thanks Darryl for you warm welcome and very infomative reply.
I think I'll get a 45 model and just keep this old girl should I get my hands on some decent secondhand parts to keep it runnning smile

There is one model 45 for sale not too far from me for $550 but I'd also like to know how to identify what year it is. I would presume it's a pretty recent model.
Is the year on the ID plate?

Thanks again

Hi peatert, No mate, the year is not on the SB ID plate.
You will only see the Model No and Mower No on the plate.
The easiest way to date a Model 45 is by the numbers on the cowl of the Briggs and Stratton engine.
I don't know how to read the numbers formula but Bruce or somebody on this forum will, and it will give you the approximate age of the mower.
(providing it is the original engine, which they usually are) wink
BTW, Rover took over Scott Bonnar in the early '90's

G'day,
To identify the year of a Briggs engine is very simple, all you need to do i look at the first digits of the 'code' e.g.
8703830A would mean it was the 3rd month of 1987. Hope this helps
