Was doing a job on a rural property and saw rear catcher flap of a mower under a pile of junk destined for the tip in the corner of a carport, mower was soon in the boot of my car, said to be a runner before being replaced by rideon many years ago.

Once home a squirt of 2 stroke fuel down the sparkplug hole had it fire up and before long got it running but only at supersonic rpm.Although the revs are very high the motor is sounding perfect and there's no smoke.

Have done a search on ODK and have plenty of Victa Vantage 2 stroke carb posts to sort through but would like to know what model/year this is and what carbie it has.Cannot see any numbers under the grunge, where should I be looking ?

Appears to have not been fiddled with before, owner said it has never had any attention apart from refueling, plenty of wasp and spider activity though and a bit of wire has been wrapped around the spark plug cap to hold it onto the plug. Fuel tank full of grot and a lot of rust on blade carrier and under the deck.

G'day MM,

There should be a number on a sticker on the end of the air filter cap to check what year this is , that's if it's original or not missing.

Has a LM carby ,I have a habit of just calling them a G4 as LM just stands for Late Model G4.

Some have numbers on the side of the alloy head. Sometimes there is a date stamping on the cast block from memory around
where the carby is but you may need to remove all the covers as it's on a flat surface.

If it's over revving and it's not got an air leak somewhere or running on a lean mixture it's most likely going to need a washer
or 2 in the carby to bring the poppet valve in a more closed position to bring the idle down.

I'd get the motor running then turn the fuel tap off , see if it keeps a constant rpm when it cuts out or does it scream
to top rpm ,if it revs a lot higher just before it cuts out there is an air leak giving the motor a lean mixture.

Another way to see if the over revving is a motor or carby problem is to put a carby on from one of your other good running
2 stroke mowers and it that fixes the problem you know the old carby needs work.

As Norm mentioned the motor being a Chinese Power torque because the cooling fins are wider apart than the earlier motors.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Max, don't know why I didn't notice the sticker on the air filter..........

Model # VAS 201 H
S/N 0738-51.00

And now I know it's a LM/Late Model G4 that wil help me sorting the carb. I have a few other Victas with similar carbs but haven't needed to delve far into them because they run OK. Just noted this one has a split in the primer rubber.

Won't have time to get into this mower for a few weeks, it will keep. Seems to be worth fiddling with though, am using plenty of machinery that is actually much more tired than this :-)

I can't find much on the VAS 201 H model MM as my model number list only goes to 1991 and it's not listed in that
but found a listing that mentioned the Vas model from 1999 to 2005.

I saw a while ago someone fixed a broken primer by picking out the old rubber primer and then they used a whipper snipper
clear primer but from memory they had to jam a big O ring in to hold the primer bubble in tight. Otherwise most people just buy
a new primer cap.

I don't think the fuel tank / top cowl is correct as it looks from an earlier model ,the parts list for 1999 on shows a later top cover.

Cheers
Max.
