hi all,
i scored a 12.5 briggs stratton yesterday and have almost had it running, but it refuses to start, plenty of fuel plenty of spark and plenty of compression, but no start!
i was wondering weather there is any tricks to getting her up and running?.
it also has 2 broken engine mounts,(both rear)i dont know weather its worth tig welding new ones on or just sourcing a second hand block?
anyway thanks for your time
regards jay

Jay,

Have you checked the flywheel key as they are alloy and tend to shear which throws out timing making them hard to start. cheers2

Hi all,
I went out to the shed this afternoon and had a little muck around with the 12.5 Briggs and found that when I turned the flywheel the was a minor clunk every time a valve was opened or closed. I then proceeded to open up the crankcase and found that the bottom cam shaft bearing/bush had literally fallen to pieces, so I continued to pull down and scrub the hell out of the engine so I can give it a light hone and new rings. if anyone has a spear sump laying around im willing to pay for it. The model is:286707 type:4028-02
Anyway it will be a good 18 month project lol
Thanks see ya all later
Regards jay
