I've got a 1971160CC with a G3 carby (black flag )mounted on a Perth dealer built edger (guessing same age). I've had a marvellous time over the past year tracking down faults (starts first pull, runs beautifully, then fails after, say 15 minutes). Replaced points and coil, plug, did timing several times. All good fun. Finally - it's the cutoff contact attached to the governor. I think that others have had fun times on this forum with the same problem. Two questions:

1. Does anyone have any simple instructions for setting a G3 governor? (I've looked, bought the Gregory's 1984 manual but can't find anything straightforward)
2. Does anyone have any simple advice regarding this cutoff contact? I'd like to retain it in original condition if I can but am open to adding a manual switch or removing altogether, although for safety reasons, I'd like to retain some form of cutoff.

Many thanks in advance. Frustrating as this has been, I've learnt a lot.

Hi Jezza,

You just need to remember each click of the teeth on this ring represents an increase of about 150 rpm when turned clockwise.

Some tips in this link https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.a...ds=g3+governor&Search=true#Post23769

Clean the kill switch part on the carby and inspect and assemble.

Cheers
Max.
