Not sure where this topic was supposed to go under so I threw it in here. I haven't dabbled with the pumps on these so I am wondering if somebody here has any experience with them. I had one dropped here this morning and it has obviously had a new motor put on it not too long ago but the bloke said it had no pressure but on asking him how to hook the hoses up to it he had no idea so I figure he has picked it up somewhere and where he got it told him it had no pressure. When I googled the pump up it just comes up as obsolete. Any ideas or is it just easier to order a new pump and throw that on?

There is the el cheapo vertical driven home owner version which are not worth repairing as most of the pumps are too expensive repair wise to repair. Then there is the home owner horizontal drive pumps which half way repairable. And of course there are the commercial horizontal pumps that are worth repairing.

As for water and pressure hose hook up it is usually obvious but that might be just an US where most pump uses household garden hose connection for the water in side and either a M22 screw on connector or 3/8 quick disconnects.

When comes to repair you got to consider over all cost to repair vs replacement.

This is a commercial machine I think he has got hold of it somewhere as he had no idea how it worked and he didn't have a hose to fit the connector. He has brought over pumps previously with either the motor in bits or the pumps in bits. I have not even looked at them I have just taken them to the scrap He picked up one today from here that was not starting and I had fixed that and then he dumps this one on me. I don't know anything about how they work internally so I might just pull the pump off and look around for a replacement pump that will fit if I can

It's a bit vague without an image as I have a few different ones.

You can work out the hoses as the bigger thread is for the garden hose, the smaller thread for the pressure cleaner lance.

If you are missing the thread adaptors then it may be a problem without seeing the pump.

I've got about 5 here Norm and never looked at them as they are fairly cheap new.

I thought there were a few new pumps you could bolt on but then with the labour cost most people just replace the whole pressure washer.

Hi Max, I don't know what pressure this pumps but it has a 10hp Honda motor on it
Another thing I have noticed now I have the cover off, somebody has tried to remove this pump from the motor because the bolts holding the pulp to the adapter plate have been removed and some time ago because of the rust on them, so I think this bloke is trying to set me up again. I have looked at various pumps online but I haven't seen anything like this one. I am getting so tired of people using poor English and ducking and weaving when you ask them questions about a machine
A good quality Triplex pump will cost him about $500 plus fitting

This pressure cleaner is a lot bigger than I thought it would be and the pump doesn't look like a universal one will fit.

I guess you could look for a pressure relief valve stuck open or a blockage but may just be worn out (pistons worn)

Hi Max,
I still haven't worked out how to get the pump off, there is 2 internal bolts holding it on. I think I will have to pull the motor off so I can get to the bottom bolt holding the rear housing onto the motor and then I may be able to get to the 2 internal bolts hopefully they come in from that side. Yes there is no way I can see any universal pump fitting on, would have to be mounted to the big plate and that requires a lot of precision work to set up and drill and tap the mounting bolt holes I'm loosing interest fast because this bloke has no money, that is why he is picking up this rubbish

Sometimes if the bolts are out and it's still tight ,there can be a set screw holding the pump on ,if your lucky you can rotate
the pump enough to undo the set screw.

Hi Max,
My problem is I can't understand how to get this pump off because of these 2 internal bolts. If I remove the rear housing on the motor which has the oil seal in it then undo the 2 internal bolts and then hopefully the pump should slide off the shaft. This seems like it might be the way because it has obviously been apart before because it has been sealed with black silicone. To get to the bottom bolt on the housing I have to remove the motor and pump from the frame. Can spend a lot of time just pulling it apart to find out I can't get a pump to fit

Darn what a pain to remove. Definitely not seen anything here like that pump. It looks like you have to disassemble the whole pump just to get to the crankshaft screw holding the pump on.

But is the IPL.

IF you look on PDF page 8 you'll see item 37 is what holding it on to the crankshaft even the parts list is calling it a set screw.

Sure did AVB, ended up completely stripping the pump to get to the crank bolt but all good now just have to see if this bloke wants me to get a new pump and then I have to drill and tap it to the 10mm plate which is going to be a bit tricky. At least then in the future you can just bolt a new pump on if you have to

Yes looks like a lot of work to get the pump off Norm and then the problem may be ,are the parts still sold for this model pressure cleaner.
I had a quick look around for parts and couldn't find much.

I'm not interested in putting this pump back on, what a dumb idea it is that I had to disassemble the pump completely to get to the bolt in the end of the crank. If he wants me to put a new pump on I will but it means I have to drill and tap the 10mm adapter plate to suit the new pump.
All takes time and I think the cost of a new pump will frighten him off. I have told him before not to bring rubbish here before but he sneaked under my guard again this time. Once I get past this I will block his number

As I expected with this bloke once I sent him a text saying it was going to need a new pump, total silence, not a peep from him. Anyway I thought I should see if it ran and first pull it fired up. What could I use an11 HP horizontal shaft motor on as I have already spent 4 hours getting the pump off this motor?

Norm, Now you see why I don't go beyond carb repairs on most vertical pressure washers and even some horizontal don't get repair due to cost involved. Plus the customers think everything is so simple to repair now days.

And this one is a real time consumer too. A very dumb design to say the least.

I use a rule of thumb here that if I suspect a repair cost goes over 50% of a replacement I just call it and tell the customer go buy a new unit.

Thanks AVB, I'm hearing you I'm kicking myself a bit because I had previously told this bloke not to bring his rubbish here. Still not a peep from him, so I guess I will have to get rid of his rubbish for him

Ok so this bloke turned up today and he wants me to fit a new pump to his Honda. I don't understand why all these replacement pumps take a 1 inch shaft and the Honda shaft is 25mm. I am going to have to set this pump up carefully so I can drill and tap the mounting bolts. The shaft being 25mm leaves me with a bit of slop of .4mm. Looks like I have to get some .2mm shim brass

Maybe there is just not a demand for 25mm ones.

But shimming would be best and just remember the shaft key will need to be custom made too especially if there is no set screws used.
