Does anybody know the thread size on the bolts that hold the coil down on the B&S motors. I need a tap to thread the holes to mount a stator on an 11 hp Briggs. The mounting towers are there they just need to be threaded

Hi Norm,

I had a look at a 10 /11 hp briggs and the stator bolt is the same as the bolt that holds the coil.

I don't have a thread gauge that goes that fine ,best guess is it's 5/32 bolt 32 TPI
and (1 inch long measured under the head to end)

Usually if I'm not 100 percent sure I'd buy a bolt that size and try it and if it's right
buy the tap.

Cheers
Max.

I read somewhere it was 8/32 but my son pointed out that should be 1/4 inch. I ended up tapping them 4mm I don't care if it is not authentic, somebody else can worry about it

Ok now I have another question due to my son doing things he shouldn't touch he has damaged the thread in the top of this crank and I am going to need a tap to clean up the thread. The motor is a 10HP Briggs Does anybody know what thread it is. I measure it as 9/16x18 tpi but would like to know for sure as these taps are expensive

Norm in order to even try look up thread sizes I need to know the model and type numbers. Some are SAE and others are Metric. Just when and where the engine was made.

The motor I have here Norm has a male thread at the top of the crank which is 5/8 and 18tpi , I'll have a look tomorrow if I have one with a bolt hole in the top of the crank.

Thanks AVB and Max
, I'm fairly comfortable it is 9/16 x18 tpi, a mate has a tap so I will see how it goes, at least I don't have to buy one
