Hi Max,

Thanks for and the information. There appears to be a couple of manuals that cover this model (30" cut) and as best I can determine the model is the one prior (SP102?, the topside of the engine has cowling has a few grills in rows but no scoop). I surmise that Greenfield focused on manufacturing a very robust machine and areas such as cataloging was not their forte. I guess it is better to have a bullet proof machine with not the best of manuals etc than a machine routinely breaks.

I may draw on your knowledge bank with these machines to assist with some practical assessments of the design. Looking at the front end I noticed the King Pins feel like they have some play in them, I am not sure if there should be. Also, the pins look to rake rearwards, I noticed there are spacers between the cross member and axle beam, there are two bolts at each end of the axle beam, each bolt at the end of the beam goes through the beam, a spacer and the cross member. One of these bolts is loose and the other doesn't have a nut on it. I assume the axle beam is designed to move in a rotational plane but I don't know how much gap there should be between the axle beam and cross member. I looked at the SP102 manual and the spacers & bolts do not show however, the SP104 shows a backing plate , wave washers but no bolts..... mmmmm head scratch, is there a SP103 30" cut?

If what I wrote is hard to follow I can post some pics (if that is possible) .

Hi CJay.
The Greenies are a tough machine and will last you a very long time with minimal maintenance. Worst case is throw another motor on them and good for years to come. Front axel beam just needs to rock to keep the front wheels on the ground. I replaced the king pin bushes in one years ago, can't remember if I was able to get new bushes or I made new ones out of Delrin. Either way they are well worth maintaining because they will give great service

Hi NormK,

I agree. After reviewing the exploded diagram I am considering installing wave washers between the spacer plates and the cross member or between the spacer plates and the axle beam. Thanks for the tip re Delrin.

I wouldn't get too fussed about a wave washer in there, any spacer that will fit over the bolt will be good enough, you only want to take the slop out of it
