Managed to Score this old Victa from an old Neighbour as he is moving into a Unit and needs to get rid of it. He had problems with it and replaced it but left it in his shed unused.

He couldn't get it to start. I gave it a couple of pumps with the split primer bulb and it fired first pull. Blows a little bit of smoke and refuses to turn off unless i flick the spark plug lead off.

I had a look tonight at the carby and noticed that an earth wire from the carby wasn't connected to anything. Not sure if this has anything to do with the not turning off but i suspect it may. So i connected it and will see if it will run for me tomorrow.

Model: VG 183A0
Has a sticker over the cylinder with Victa Series 80 on it.

Can anyone tell me what it is?

Cheers

Josh

Hello Josh

That is a 160cc full crank motor mower and should still be fine to mow the lawn for a long time yet.

If it will not stop when moving the throttle to the stop position you can also turn the fuel tap off and wait for the carby to run out of fuel.

It will have the LM or G4 carby (plastic) which will have 2 wires going into it which is the ignition kill for the stop on the throttle control. The setup Victa has for this is very dodgy but does work fine if setup correctly. Bit hard to explain with words so have a close look and see if you work it out, if not let us know.

JRS,

That is a store brand Victa which is quite a good machine. The reason it would have blown smoke was because it has been left for a long time and the fuel in the crankcase has evaporated leaving the oil in the crankcase. It should go away after running for a while.

The stop wires are easy to fix because all you need is a replacement rubber like this one [Linked Image] which is in the online store.cheers2

Congrats on a great score, the full crank engines are very sturdy and once running correctly should give you good service wink

Thanks for the Welcome and the helpful information. I plan on giving it a test today to see how she goes. It is in pretty good condition the only part that needs work is the top plastic cover has a section missing but doesn't stop the working of the mower at all.

Cheers!

Josh

It runs first pull and turns off now. How ever i need to replace the primer bulb as it leaks. Other than that its a good mower!

Not only that if you find a goof old victa like this it will if looked after outlast just about anything on the cheaper scale of the market today.

I salvage all old full crank victas where possible, they are a much smoother engine than a powertorque in my honest opinion (saying this can cause heated debate as does any Briggs VS tecumseh topic)

I found one on the side of the road infront of a scrap metal place yesterday, when I mix some 2 stroke up next I will give it a hit.

I constantly see old Mowers outside a scrap yard of a sunday afternoon. But its abit far to go to check every sunday for them. I am going to start doing a letter box drop in the local streets around asking for old mowers, whipper snippers and edges etc that people don't want or use or that can't get to work. I love fixing them and if i can fix it and sell it to someone cheaply it not only helps them out but it helps me with some extra cash and saves the land fill too. Its a win win.... As people would rather replace them than fix them. As my Girlfriend says... Its a Desposible society.
