i have been working on a bolens mower with a quantam 35 engine, its the first time i've had it going since i've had it.it started up ok but wouldnt idle and just kept hunting and running rough, didn't sound too bad with revs on it though.i cleaned the carby and checked the o ring on the manifold.it started up,it now idles but still rough, and hunts but not as bad. i havn't checked the valve clearance yet.it has one govener spring that i havnt had off yet.when i adjust the mixture screw it travels a long way before it changes anything. any ideas what to do next thanks micka

hi,
when you cleaned the carby did you just flush it out, or did you dismantle it all?
whenever i play around with these things i take out the mixture screw and blow a LITTLE air throught the hole, then bath all parts in petrol. useing this method i have always had sucess. but remember to be very careful not to blow the carby to bits!

hi mowernut
i took out the mixture screw and sat the carby in a container of petrol then lightly blew the whole thing of with the air, i dont reckon it was severe enough to do damage but strong enough to clear the ports

mika,
to tell you the truth i blow out carbys with the full pressure in the compressor, but arnt game to recomend it to anyone else lol.
its funney that it is still surging/hunting, i would say the next thing i would do would be make sure the air cleaner is clean and then wind the mixture screw as far in as it will go wile still running then start to back it off 1/2 turn by 1/2 turn till it runs smooth. if that fails i would then move onto springs and linkages ( make sure you have the right oil leavel as this can effect mechanical throttle linkages).
hope you have success regards jay

better day today,i dissassembled the carby again and let it soak for an hour or so.the manifold o ring seemed ok but i found a new one in the shed, at the same time changed the oil. i put it together and its running heaps better.looks like i balzed up some where the first time cheers micka
