I am thinking of giving this base a paint up but have no idea what colour it is or if the paint is available any where (Galmet??). It is hamertone but not Galmet Avocado colour it is a lighter green. The base is an 80's model full crank mower with the side gear pull start. Has anyone matched this same colour before? Thanks Martin ![[Linked Image from i256.photobucket.com]](http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh187/newy1234/Mower/DSC07965.jpg)

Hi MVC, Knowing the standard of excellence of your restorations; particularly with attention to paint colour authenticity (viz-a-viz the handle colour of your 18 Special), I would take the base to an industrial paint supplier and get them to colour match it for you, if possible. The main problem here is that Victa, right from the very start, was having 'corporate' colour schemes designed for them often in 'hammertone' finishes, eg. Avocado Green, and the formulas have been lost over time or extremely hard to come by, as they were never meant for public use.In fact Galmet is the only manufacturer of hammertone finishes that I am aware of and don't have many colours to choose from. However, an industrial paint supply company may be able to match it and supply in a small quantity for you. Best of luck and good hunting!!

MVC, Protec sell hammertone finishes, if there is a branch near you they should be able to colour match what your after. Hammertone paint is still widely used so there will be other suppliers. http://www.protec.com.au/cheers gmax

Thanks Deejay, HAHAHAHHA, yep you got me, I am a bit of a keep it original Nazi.
I thought there might be a off the shelf paint around by chance, but that may not be the case. I have seen manufactures other than Galmet hammertone paint on the shelf at one of my local hardware stores, so I will go have have a closer look tomorrow.
Thanks as well gmax. I might just paint it up in brunswick green, as this is not a resto job, just a clean up and sell.

Hi Wayne, and thanks for the heads up with Protec...I have not heard of the company before; will contact them with regards to maybe matching the Scott Bonnar original hammertone, if I wish to do a complete repaint of the 45. It is a shame no-one produces relica transfers and decals for the various mowers and chainsaws.....It would make a big difference if trying to decide to do a 'complete' resto.

For everyones info, I have been down to my local Mitre 10 and found the 'White Knight' and 'Dulux' both make paint in spray tins with the Hammer tone affect.

well that's the cheapest option for you if you don't have spray equipment, Darryl, Some relica transfers are available for chainsaws from the US but not a very wide range mainly for old Homelites.
cheers gmax

Darrly, you may also be able to get a sign company to make you some stickers (decals) I know some places have sticker making machines.

Hi Wayne, yeah mate, that's the main prob, a very limited range! With mowers, ATCO have got some very good replicas available from Rustic Spares.....It would be great to have a wide range to choose from; eg. Victa,Pope,Scott Bonnar,Pace as well as engine decals...Villiers, B&S, Tecumseh, Kirby Lawson etc. Ahhhh, in a perfect world eh!! Lol!!

Darrly, there may have been something close in the paint colours I found but I did not want to go trying them all just to find out. Maybe some more investigation is needed. Joe, I think mine was the same base colour as yours since its the same mower. HAHAHAHAH I did it in brunswick green and it came up ok. ![[Linked Image from i256.photobucket.com]](http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh187/newy1234/Mower/DSC07987.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i256.photobucket.com]](http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh187/newy1234/Mower/DSC07990.jpg)

Hey Joe, Aussie Junk, (Gregadoo tip) has just done a roadside collection thru Ashmont, Flowerdale and Glenfield....I saw quite a few Ryobi trimmers (in pieces, some of them)and a few complete mowers amongst them. Might be worth a trip to the tip next time you're up this way
