That's ok NormK. so thrilled the 24 bits are finally in your possession and with someone who will make use of them instead of me having to step over them! I did finally get around to putting them away though lol.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Glad to be able to help reduce your stockpiles, pity the bases got scrapped, but not much we could do about that, freight would have made them too difficult to transport. Anyway thanks again, much appreciated
Yes it's a shame the good one wasn't practicable to be sent over. The other had cracks all over it. It was also a shame I didn't cut the spindle out somehow as I would have gotten $10 + instead of $3.20. A shame I didn't take the other one for scrap value as well instead of leaving it for kerb side collection.

Interesting way of paying for postage, you would think that in this day and age they wouldn't need to put 71 stamps on a parcel. Even my local postie was surprised.
I've also had parcels where they used a lot of stamps ,I just thought the machine to print the label had run out of ink or the stickers to print on.
With metal on alloy for scrap that would require time to Dismantle, I just smash the alloy with a sledge hammer to Remove the metal , doesn't take long , sometimes use a big chisel and Hammer. An axe or a log splitter works too.
Hi Max, I hadn't thought about smashing the bases up, I always just stripped them down. Any bit of steel in the ally is a good reason for them to downgrade it. Scrappies are a different breed
Yes a lot less work Norm to smash the alloy when the time to dismantle is excessive to what the scrap is worth , even with an alloy housing on a gearbox you may as well smash the bellhousing off and what ever else breaks off easily.
All the scrap dealers are dishonest in my area ,if you sell them mag wheels they pay you for cast alloy that is about 40 cents a kg instead of the magnesium price that is about $2. a kg , but they put the mags in a magnesium bin and not a cast alloy bin so they are obviously selling the mags for more as magnesium.
The last bit of alloy I smashed apart was an outboard motor leg , it had completely corroded together, saved a lot of time.
One time I was at the scrap yard and they said a mechanic had just rang to abuse them for paying an apprentice such a low price for an alloy 6 cylinder head that the mechanic had sent the apprentice to sell ,the head was dismantled but they had not removed the valve seats and guides.
Not much point picking up free mowers these days unless you need one to use as it takes at least 10 days to sell a $70 mower and just picking up scrap you would probably make a couple hundred in 4 hours. Years ago I'd sell 15 mowers in 10 days off one gumtree ad.
Hi Max, I have an ad on Gumtree for a Chonda I put together, good Sanli motor, good little 16 inch mower for somebody with a small area to mow. I have it on there for $70 and I had a bloke ring a few days ago and he said he would give me $50 for it. I said no and hung up on him. He spent the next half hour abusing me and carrying on like an absolute turkey till I blocked him. There is plenty like that out there and makes you wonder if it is all worth the effort.
I love those 16" mowers. I've almost finished preparing my Gardenline 16" for sale and I like it so much I wouldn't mind it myself. Whoever gets it will have themselves a near new mower that runs like silk and is so light and nimble and easy to start. All that over wanting to save $20 like he's entitled to it. He'd probably (try to) sell it for $170 afterwards. What a jerk.

A long time ago I was using a Tiger 16 inch mower to cut a large lawn on a slope as the 16 inch mower was nice and light , it was used for at least 3 years then I sold the mower and the next guy used the mower for a couple years then sold it on then I know the next owner used the mower for at least another 3 years. That's why I don't say these 16 inch mowers only suit a small yard.I have heard a lot of people say a chonda only lasts 3 years but they seem to last a lot longer if you keep the filter clean, change the oil and keep the blades sharp but some models are better than others.
The Sanli motors last a long time when looked after and I think you shouldn't have any problem Norm getting $70. ,it just takes a fair while to sell a cheaply priced mower these days.
Yes you can definitely get some idiots sometimes ,if they make a stupid offer I just block them and you can block them in your email address that stops Gumtree messaging, Most times when I get a low offer on a cheaply priced mower ,I just say, the mower I am giving away for free and are only charging $70 for the service and if they go to a mower shop the service is over $100. and then say the last mower I serviced the same as this I sold for $100. but have put this down to $70.
A lot of people say after I won't reduce the price ,I had to ask ,meaning if your stupid enough to give them a discount they are happy to pay less even though they know the mower is cheap to start with. They always pay the $70.
Yes it wasn't worth me selling 2 strokes as a lot of people don't want to pay $50. and offer $25.
Mowers are just a hobby ,you can't make much from them, you can cut fire wood and make a minimum of a $1000. in 7 days.
