I picked this up a little while ago mainly with the intention to add to the scrap pile I was taking. I wouldn't normally have bothered (it weighs a tonne). The rear wheels have had bike tyres screwed into them (a common home repair method to SP wheels) which suggests a well used SP system.
I plan to attempt a transfer of the engine to another base as I don't see this being viable. I even threw the catcher out. Was that a mistake?
The plastics don't feel good quality like the wheel covers and mulch plug. Very hard and toy like.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Mowerfreak,

Here is a parts list for the Redback model in the picture. It might be of some help. I will be adding parts list for the Redback mower range shortly.

Hi MF,
Wheels look pretty standard to me, no problems swapping it to another base if the motor runs. So often with Chondas I find they have had ethanol in them and the carby is stuffed and you can't get the main jet out to clean it. I guess the thinking of the people who buy these mowers is it is a cheap mower so I will use the cheapest fuel in it. New carby for them usually costs about $20 so depends on what you are going to do with the motor

Hi NormK and Bruce,
this has a four blade carrier. Are the blades and blade disc the same or compatible with any other brand?

Bruce thanks for that. I never expected to get exploded diagrams so quickly. I wish I had posted sooner. It looks to need a few parts replaced. Wish I didn't chuck away the catcher now.

NormK, the motor starts easily and runs well. I don't think this is one of those E10 cases. It even came with plenty of fuel.

MF,
Often Honda blades fit these sort of Chondas, sometimes they might be a bit long and need cutting back

MF, from memory, a lot of the redbacks take masport quick/quadcut blades (redback is done by parklands power equipment and all their other mowers take masport blades as well).

Otherwise, as Norm said, it often takes mower blades. bnc3620 is the ga spares number. They fit the chonda engined rovers as well

Look at the camber on the back wheels, that tells you what metal they are made of

By the way, they marketed that s461 model as the "Redback Monaro" haha

Oh no. I was going to stick it on a Victa base but prefer to avoid using a totally different blade disc to a Victa.
Would I be better off finding a Masport base for it or is it fairly common to sell bitsa brands mowers?
I did find a Talon with a Briggs fitted with a Victa Blade carrier once. The blades sat higher than they should due to the shorter shaft. I will try this on for size on the Victa base anyways.
