Got this artefact from hard kerbside rubbish. I had a Hudson in my area growing up (Eastwood). Does anyone remember TV ad with the old man in a small vintage pick up truck "that's Hudson with an H"?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Hi Dandare, Found this ad dating from 1985. I wonder what became of this chain. Most likely swallowed up by the bigger boys. Another memorable brand long gone.

Invaluable information there. What is it with duopolies here? ACCC are toothless tigers letting this go on. We have a higher population then ever while competition is the lowest we've seen. I think Australian way of doing business stinks as well as the regulators.
I remember Eastwood had three hardware stores, each doing business in a different style and co existing fine. The old A.Hudson site is now a smattering of Chinese and Korean community focused businesses with the accompanying English and foreign character signage. Speaking of, this has changed the character of the the former Australian looking and feeling middle class area I grew up in, thanks to a local council that doesn't do it's job in regulation to preserve an area's traditional character. Anyway I digress. Complete Hardware, an independent hardware business on the other side of the line with three separate shops next to each other for paint, timber and hardware has been gone about 20 years now. It was my go to for any obcure specialist item my heart desired one of, not a pack of 10' Go to the counter, tell them what you're after, they fetched it out the back for you. It sounds like I'm describing the 50s. This was the late 1990s. Just more unwanted eateries if a certain persuasion. But diversity has improved everybody's lot so the pinkos keep saying. I beg so much to differ.
So yeah thanks Tyler for showing me what I suspected.

I am lucky enough to have a makit hardware store about 2 minutes drive down the road. Same thing, park at the front door (not 200m away like the green shed) walk in, name your item and they take you straight to it.
Run by 2 brothers whose father bought the business 50+ years ago
2 months ago, had tilers coming to do the bathroom floor in 2 hours and work out the seal at the back of the dunny was leaking (which would later necessitate ripping up the grout they were about to lay around the base of the pan) - run down and say I need a toilet screw fixing kit, caroma flush pipe boot and a rubber floor flange. Bang, all things in my hands within 30 seconds, maybe 5-8% more than bunnings and 100% less hassle.
Other day, 4mm vinyl tubing - bunnings 10 metre lengths, ran straight down to the local and bought 2m off a bulk role.
Then theres a mitre 10 nearby that I wouldn't p*** on if it was on fire
MF I still have some tools here that I bought from Hudsons Store in the CBD in the sixties was an amazing store you could spend hours wandering around in. So much old stuff there and it was really old stuff 60 years ago
