Hello all,

Hoping to get some more information on the below utility.
I cant seem to find any photos with that particular engine.

the model code on it is AY 071-A 8

Thanks a lot!

Hi Bryan,
It a pretty standard 4 stroke utility with a 148cc Briggs and Stratton 200 series engine. I'd guess it's about a 1986-1987 model. It appears to be all original except for the Rover throttle assembly.
Cheers, Ted

Never seen a VIcta ute with a Briggs vertical pull.
Used to have a Rover from the 70s (disc base no side shute) with a yellow points version of that motor and a neighbour had a Scott Bonnar utility with a white one.

Your mower is missing the extra bit that goes on the discharge with a metal flap. Note the bolt holes.
Should still work fine though. Nice mower. I like the motor's orientation.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

hey lads, thanks for the replies.

So that engine is the original engine?

I am completely new to the victa's so wanting to get into them and restore this one to as original as possible.

@bigted when you say the throttle isnt original, what does the original one look like?

Are parts easily acceessible to buy? Especially that side chute, thats probably the main thing I want to purchase for this

Thanks

The little white sticker you got the model number off suggests that the motor is original. I dont have a pic of the original throttle assembly but they are definitely NLA by now. The metal side chute is probably also not available anymore as Victa have been using a plastic one for quite a few years now.

You’d have to get very lucky with someone having old stock to turn up a side chute. Occasionally they come up with online sellers but they’re often very expensive.

They’re not difficult to fabricate if you’re prepared to put in the time and elbow grease. I made a workable substitute for one of mine (an earlier model) by copying an original. I traced the original onto card to make a template and then transferred the template outline to sheet metal before bending, folding and welding to get the right shape. It’s not identical but with a coat of paint it would take an officionado to notice.

I got one off an older FC base that had been thrown in a mower shop skip bin. It was the only good bit on it. It replaced one with a crack and missing flap on my PT one. It came up like a new part after taking to it with a wire cup on an angle grinder and a coat of paint.

ch83989g is the metal flap original part number

CH85638G should fit but NLA - see if your local shop still has one

CH86936AV is the current part - again deck hasnt changed so should fit. but its a OHS safe shield so will leave a windrow as opposed to spreading it evenly.

As ironbark said, it wouldnt be hard to make with a bit of patience and a few tools

Thanks all,

@mowerfreak is there any manuals or old brochures that point out the different models you are referring to? (FC, PT)

I am picking up another one for parts tomorrow which has a side chute, so hopefully its in good enough condition.

@bigted I am assuming the throttle assembly that are on the 2 strokes, with the tubing, aren't the original ones for this briggs engine?

Here's some links to four from 1972, 1980, 1982 and 1983/84 when the Powertorque (PT) mono block half crank motor was introduced and used with subtle changes up until Victa quit making 2 strokes in 2017.

All the utilities with 2 stroke motors shown, however, are the full crank (FC) engine, but the PT motor was fitted to the same utility base soon afterwards only with a modified engine mounting hole pattern to suit.
