My old Tanake just wouldn't rev, so it has been laying around for a year...... I was reading Tylers post..... and remembered I had not checked the spark arrestor.... It was clogged, so I took it out.... Machine runs well now.
My friends think I can fix anything, His Stihl chainsaw was not revving, so I cleaned carb..... no good, so bought a new carb, $24 still no good. did some digging and learned about the spark arrestors clogging uo, so took it out and bingo..... he was happy to get it going..... speedy

Hey speedy, what's the spark arrester bit? Where is it and what does it do, regulate spark somehow as the name suggests?
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Good grief, why the goobledygook? Is it because of a screen in the muffler that does the spark arresting and that's what clogs up?

Thanks speedy for jogging my memory. I have a Stihl blower here that wouldn't rev and I was thinking carby but you just made me think so I pulled the mesh plug out and runs like a clock or how a Stihl should

Yes Norm, that's why I tossed them. You can burn the carbon off with a little gas burner if you like, but it will come back... happy easter to all speedy

Stihl are terrible for this. Apparently a large part of the problem is that the stihl oil they make you purchase for warranty doesn't like low speed running - gums up the works
