Hi All

It's taken me a while to find the Patent for the first Victa recoil starters used in 1957.

The second type of recoil starter used by Victa was easily identified as a starter designed by Fairbanks, Morse & Co in the USA.
Villiers also used this type of starter.

The first Victa recoil starter was designed for an outboard boat motor by a Knut from Sweden for Electrolux.

Cheers
Max.

Hi Max
That's brilliant research!!!

I guess this explains how the Vinco 125cc came
to use this early recoil starter.

What is becoming clear - through research - is
that Victa were quite happy to search AUS
and worldwide patents for their purposes.

Many thanks

I'm not so sure if Victa searched patents or just looked at other manufacturers equipment as I know
of a few shops in the fifties and sixties that imported USA tools and machinery / equipment .

As we know it was not that uncommon for Australia to look overseas for inspiration ,car manufacturing was
another good example ,the first Holden FX (48-215) Prototype No. 1 was built by hand in 1946 by American and Australian engineers at the General Motors workshop in Detroit.

Yes a lot of the early mower starters used in Australia, were USA designed starters .

Hmm Victa probably saw USA mowers with edgers before designing their edger or possibly had access to patents.

Cheers
Max.
