Morning all, This was next to bin at bowls club. They gave it to me, said it was sitting in shed for 5 years. Cleaned tank and carb and plug. Had to put two other wheels on . sharpened blades..... 19inch cut, Anyway it started easily, ran perfect.... smooth. I read some bad reports on them, but lucky with this one..... This one is going to lady friend with 5 kids and big lawn, pre christmas present, no warrenty. lucky speedy
........................Keep your blades sharp......................
Hi Speedy (to get it going). I think I heard their main problem is being underpowered? They have a Briggs copy that is smallish in capacity for the size of mower. I hope it gives your friend trouble free service for a while. Panther lurking there. Brisbane had Panthers for many years -the Leyland bus kind.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
A mate bought one new in the late 00’s and has used it on a massive lawn ever since. Each mow takes basically a full tank and it still goes strong, even though it wasn’t serviced between 2012 and 2018.
The wheels are useless – I swapped on 4x Mcculloch mower wheels which are double ball bearing cast aluminium with rubber tread.
The original throttle levers are junk as well. Carby is somewhat easy to clog and adjusting RPM by removing cowl is stupid.
MF, they are a bit under powered – I think it is a briggs 148cc clone, though some were more like 160cc. Much of the issue is owed to a lightweight quickcut blade bar – like masport. No inertia means easy to stall.
Decks are the most solid steel deck you could want for. When the original motor dies, it will be getting a Briggs quantum.
I found one dumped outside a mower shop a few years back. It looked in good nick. Didn't bother with it. NormK fitted Powertorques to a couple after some alterations as the base is superior to a Victa's.

I found one on the verge collection across the road from my place, sitting there complete with catcher. Decided to bring it home and have a look. Pull start was not functioning and cord all the way out. Pulled the top of and worked out someone had put the spring on backwards. Got it all sorted, put fuel in it and started 3rd pull. Not sure what to do with it now lol
and quickly before it changes its mind about running haha
In all honesty the decks are good, the wheels are crap and on the motors you either get a million miles out of them or they failed within the first couple of years

If it gets that time of the month then change that to toss it off...the nearest high structure.
