Manufactured by the Coldwell Lawn Mower Company, Newburgh, New York. Produced from the late 1890's until the early 1910s. This mower only requires a clean, it still has lots of original paint. The wooden shaft will be replaced as the original is beyond repair.
The mower had a quick clean last December and coated with a mixture of boiled linseed oil and turpentine. A wooden shaft (shovel handle) was purchased last week and cut down to the required 39 inches. The remains of the original shaft were removed from the handle, most of it turned to a fine powder. Borer holes in the handle were then filled and all the wooden pieces then coated with the same mixture.
Before being put on display, I gave the mower a trial run on our museum 'lawn'. It cut the grass very well.,
