Picked this one up today. It's an 80's model higharch, with commodore on the cowling and silver streak on what would be the correct catcher for a higharch.
I think the SS came with the sleeker shaped catcher v like the Corvette of the time. I wish I could find dull silver like that to repaint my scabby Silver Streak with.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Mate I cleaned out the tank and did all of my 2-stroke service guide that I created myself and this thing absolutely howells but I think it's the exhaust being stuffed that is. So a decal a good clean and we have a silverstreak. Or did the commodore decal come on that model silverstreak?
Cheers Max and to you MowerFreak for making sure to point out something about this mower that isn't as good as another one 🤔🙂🤤🙂🤤 I know it's just for educational purposes not the jealousy boiling up from underneath watching me collect almost every mustang up to the second vortex and a Red VC-SPORT a Green V147 VC-SPORT and a purple VC-SPORT, I admit the purple doesn't have a catcher. Oh wait how could I forget? The VC125, ahh she's a beauty. Gave the carby a full service some fresh juice and she's running like new. This thing absolutely pings at full tilt!
But I haven't gone to collect my post lockdown buys. A few in my usual catagory but more completely different to what I normally go for. The SA trip is in the pipeline I have 5 mowers to bring back. Including the original consul 2 deck and engine and the catcher for it on ebay. Then well you will see when I do!

I have the other cowling you're talking about MF I just obtained it about 3 minutes ago. 🙃
I got this by mistake. I put in the minimum bid on ebay, won and and my mate dropped it off yesterday. Depending on how things go tomorrow by the Wednesday evening I'll have at least 6 new mowers well old ones.....
I'll do something similar but I'll wait until I can get another one in bad condition cheap and cut and glue an exact piece. I don't mind doing that either black.
That corvette cowling I don't know what to do with because the decks are horrible for its correct model. Cheap alloy casting that out of the 4 I have only 1 that doesn't need serious bending or clamping massive cracks and then a heap of welding and the alloy is so cheap and lightweight that I'm guessing high levels of aluminium so tough enough to weld that this is work a boiler maker of many years might go this will be interesting.
So I'm open to idea's but I think it's getting mounted with some memorial plaque about how I got it or something like that. Either to go in a case made of good quality clear PVC so everything can be seen.
I would swap it but only for 1 of 2 things a Red 73-74 Mustang Or a Purple and Blue VC-SPORT without holes in the cowling. I could add more but they are the only 2 things that would sway my mind......
Hi Max and MF. After looking into the commodore I now know that the catcher is wrong on this mower. Well the decal is. My mower is a VG 183 A0 80-81 COMMODORE High arch.
The silverstreak has the black version of my white corvette cowling. The correct catcher for the commodore is the same as the silverstreak but without a decal.
I've attached pictures of the parts reference guide listing of the commodore, the correct catcher and official information on the correct catcher and the picture of my Commodore.
I guess victa tried to use Australian car models as names but I guess they don't sound as good as Mustang or Corvette.
That's the ugliest thumblatch catcher. Never liked them. But they seem to be the least prone to cracking or other damage. They're like cockroaches. Have to respect them.
