I want to see if any of you small engine mechanics are willing to share your trade secrets regarding fitting piston rings with no ring compressor. Back in the 14 century, knowledge was power. In the case of Freemasons, they knew how to build castles and shared that knowledge with no man and evolved into a influential and powerful organisation that operates in the shadows and out of view. But here at Outdoorking one hand washes the other and together we wash the face. Baaahaaahaaa. OMG!! I am so full of it hey? I just snapped my second oil ring trying to fit it to a Briggs and Stratton Quantum. Someone please tell me how to get it in with the piston inside the cylinder without breaking another set.
Heres one from a 1981 edition of a pommie magazine called Popular Motoring. They put together a 'best of readers time savers' - 100 or so things. Here is their solution.
So in the same way, any worm gear hose clamp should work with some fiddling and swearing haha
Yes AVB, that should work ,specially with a 8mm wide zip tie, then use razor blade to cut it off. I usually line it up, spray with WD40 ,try to push sides in with screwdrivers and give piston very light tap with wooden hammer..... speedy
........................Keep your blades sharp......................
Tyler, ABV and Speedy. You heard it 1st here. They are going to build bridges one day and name them after you guys. Cable ties? Never even considered it. Once again you have outdone yourselves. Thanks heaps guys......again
